Although i do a bed level and whether i get a fresh mesh each print or load the saved one my print is fine at the fron side of the bed but massively thins out at the rear end (first layer is pretty much see through!) what might be causing this?

0.5 is quite high, I would focus on fixing that first. But before that, Fix the X gantry To be flat. You can do this by unscrewing the rail to the aluminum extrusion and then screwing it either left to right, or right to left, with a torque screw, or at least as close as you can with your hands so its equal. Then do Home, Z-Tilt and then mesh again. After that we shall see. Because your frame might be square but the x gantry is bowing upwards heavily.
