Low FPS & System Resource usage when distant generation enabled
Distant Horizons 2.3.2-b, Forge 47.4.0, MC 1.20.1
Extreme Preset, Balanced Load, 128 Distance
Oculus 1.8.0, Complementary r5.4 + Euphoria Patches 2.5.2
i5 12500h, RTX 3060 Mobile, 16gb dd4 (10gb allocated to MC)
I am playing on a heavily modded server with the LODs pre-generated. When joining, my CPU usage is at 100% and GPU usage is around 10-15% - This is expected behaviour (afaik). Once LODs are sent to the client, it should stabilize and FPS should increase. While CPU usage does drop down to ~30% (as expected), GPU usage does NOT rise and stays stuck between 10-30%.
In a singleplayer world with a prior version of this pack (mostly the same mods, only major difference is the version of dh (2.3.0-b vs 2.3.2-b) and the world generator - Lithosphere instead of the current Larion), this would not happen. CPU usage would be at 100% for distant generation, while GPU usage would also be at or near 100% (this was due to the shaders, which also seem to have issues now - more on that later). Once distant generation was complete, CPU usage would fall to expected levels, and GPU usage would stay high. I would see ~20fps with regular drops to <5 during distant generation, and 40-70fps after generation was complete - this was with shaders too.
On the server however, i average 20fps while LODs are being streamed, and <10 once it is complete. I believe this is due to the gpu not being used - no idea why. I have verified that minecraft is using the correct gpu, it is not an issue of igpu vs dgpu.
In addition, i keep having issues with shaders. if I have shaders enabled, the client immediately disconnects from the server as soon as it joins, giving errors about the world not being found and timing out. If I join without shaders and try to enable them, sometimes it will work, other times it will just fail.
I post this here because none of this happens when I disable distant generation. I connect to the server, shaders work fine, I get >100fps, and gpu usage is as expected.

Can I trim/remove chunks I have already generated?
I have generated an area with a radius of 1024 using dh. however, in order to save on unnecessary storage, I want to decrease this area to about half of what it currently is (512). Is such a thing possible?
