We are master students and working for a research group at UHasselt/KuLeuven and we want to build a 3D printer that can print liquid metals for then use in stretchable electronic applications

Normally we will do the first liquid metal tests on friday!

Now we read out the pins of the normal extruder with an Arduino and use a computer with Labview to control the syringe with the RS232 protocol

We also did our first test today with water instead of liquid metal and it worked very well!

Thanks all for the response. We are currently able to read out the pins of the extruder with an Arduino and we can connect the Arduino with labview software. We hope it will be 'easy' to connect labview with the dispenser. Printing Liquid Metal will be a very slow proces in comparison with regular 3D printing so we hope speed and latency will not be a problem. Thank you for helping us and if anyone should have other ideas, feel free to contact us!

For our research high precision dispensing is needed because of the properties of our liquid metal. We are planning to use the following dispenser:

Pre-heating extruder...
Hi, sorry for the late reply. This weekend we found our problem and apparently the extruder TMC2209 was defect. We orderd a new one end everything is working perfect now. Thanks!

Is there anybody who can help us with this problem? We tried to figure this out but couldn't sort it...

Is it even possible to do a dummy print without attaching a steppermotor on the place of the extruder?

Pre-heating extruder...
This worked very well thanks! Now the problem is "tmc uart 'extruder' register IFCNT", because ofcourse there is no default extruder. Can I overrule this as well?

Dxf to G-Code
Hii, thanks for the fast response!
1) We are going to use a syringe pump for the flow control of the liquid metal. We are planning to control the flow by using the output from the extruder (that we are not using), we will process this output using arduino/raspberry and Map the values to code/numbers the syringe can understand.
2) In the first stage of the project we don't want any Z movement because we first want to run some test with diffrent liquid metal compositions. We do this to find in a the best composition with which we will eventually 3D print.
3) Indeed, it certainly does not have to be a .dxf file. This is just as an example because it can only display lines, just like a .svg or other vector files
So if I understand correctly for printing lines in 2D the best thing to do is design a very slim beam in 3D, export this to .3mf and then use layerheight to generate the one layer?
I then have another question :). From reasearch papers, we have found that often when corners are made in liquid metal printing, there is a local accumulation of liquid metal. Is it possible to temporarily slow down the extrusion speed (which we will connect to the syringe pump) during corner making or to temporarily increase the print speed in corners?

MCU 'mcu' shutdown: ADC out of range
We are both masterstudents at (Immo)-IMEC and this is part of or thesis so we did a liturature review to explore which printer is the best for or project. The software and the fact that RatRig is completely open source won us over.

MCU 'mcu' shutdown: ADC out of range
Hi, sure! We are actually two students and for a big project we are trying to build a liquid metal 3D printer to make stretchable electronics. So instead of the basic Filament we will try to use a syringe with the liquid metal.
We are both quite inexperienced with 3D printers so more questions will possibly follow :). Thanks!

Where do I add this best? Printer.cfg or...?
