Isn't DH not meant to affect fps unless loading new LODs?

My normal FPS without DH and shaders at 20 chunks is at around 200 but as soon as i activate DH it goes down to 20-30ish. This gets even worse when i add shaders. what ive heard from multiple sources is that it doesnt effect FPS -i use a 3070 and a 3700x with 32GB RAM
