NVM. Obviously wouldn't work because the plugin wouldn't start anyway without the depend. hmm.

Seems like I can just do something like this to remove and update the config? 
        getPlugin().getDescription().getDepend().remove(0);
        getPlugin().reloadConfig();

I salute you for not wanting Essentials. Talk about bloat. Even after disabling all the stuff you don’t want, you’re still left with a cookie-cutter feel. Good job being unique! Signed a fellow essentials hater
