Puzzling intermittent connection timeouts on Contabo VPS
Hey, I‘m currently trying to help out some people I know, who have issues with their server. The Problem: The server regularly kicks specific players and any players, that try to join after that point will not be able to, because the server cannot reach the Mojang authentication servers. During that time, the entire VPS seems to loose internet connection to (at least some) hosts. There is no apparent time based pattern to this. The setup: The server is running in a Docker Container on a VPS hosted by Contabo (shared and not dedicated resources). The container‘s network is running in the default bridge configuration. But due to the entire VPS being affected, I don‘t believe that to be relevant. What we‘ve tried - Running another server in a new container. Result: The issue persists. - Running a backup on another host (Bloom). Result: The test-server wasn‘t experiencing this issue. - Changing the DNS settings. Result: Issue still persists. Further notes and theories: This seems to be quite obviously a networking issue. My current theory is, that an automated routine from Contabo is messing with the routing to some addresses (that‘s why some players are not affected). It could also be, that the issue is performance related. 100mbit/s of bandwidth are guaranteed, but idk about other limiting factors like CPU. Did someone else have the same experience with Contabo or does someone know more about networking and knows how to at least pin down the exact cause? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
