You could try file converter:

or Nilesoft's Shell context menu with some extra work:
https://nilesoft.org/
Not sure if pyWinContext is still actively used or in development, but those solutions are what I am currently using.

Also a friend brought his laptop over and it does the same thing on that, so I know it is an issue with the device itself most likely

Code 43 is a generic driver and/or settings corruption error, so my guess is the update broke it
