System spontaneously rebooting at random, can't find a cause
1. You could try and reproduce the error by stress testing or running memtest86.
2. Have you ever tried to reset bios after this started happening?
3. I found this, which looks like the error you mentioned, he says a core is defective and deactivates it.
https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?resources/machine-check-exception-mce-workaround.55/
You could try that (with numbers adjusted to your error message accordingly). But I guess it would make sense to try to stress test before that to potentially verify if that helped.
Nevermind that last part, I think your error is different

Install error
i had that error when trying to install it to an ssd with a bitlocker partition on it. (at least some guy on the internet claimed that this was the problem) if that's the case, it fails when trying to remove them. I fixed it by booting from another os and deleting the existing partitions with kde partition manager manually, before entering setup again.
you could also try to deactivate bitlocker first in windows, not sure though if that is enough though

if you want to know if your installation is screwy, you can run
sudo ostree fsck
, which checks your system commits for integrity. (afaik it also checks those other than the current deployment)
that aside: there was an update today, 20250325, maybe give that a try
if that doesn't work, you could post your rpm-ostree status
maybe there is something layered that is causing the problem?20 replies

Bazzite install just booting to windows
you said you select "install this media", have you tried "test this media and install"?
i have a usb stick where it always fails the verification step even when etcher verified the image as correct. maybe something similar is happening here too.
you could also try to install fedora kinoite and then do a rebase to bazzite

Installed Bazzite for the first time shows error to load the kernel first.
You probably just needed to enroll your key during setup. (You can do it afterwards too, if you want to enable secure boot again.) The documentation is actually great on this: https://docs.bazzite.gg/General/Installation_Guide/secure_boot/

Proton Drive
You need to read the actual response from the official proton team, not what some random dude on Reddit claims. And no, "not officially compatible" is definitely NOT the same as them "blocking rclone". It does indeed work, I used it the other day. And they literally say that you can use it, which you would know if you had read all the information provided by YOUR link. Just because things don't work the way you want them to doesn't mean you should spread false information. I don't even understand what their focus on privacy has to do with the availability of a sync client. You can always use a browser even if rclone would not work.

Horrible first PC build experience
it needed something like Fedora KinoiteThat does not make sense. Can you please tell his the actual error message? A picture might help. What video are you referring to? There aren't any commands you have to copy and paste when installing bazzite. Did you ever reach the login screen after the install?

Proton Drive
You might want to actually read that. Proton never said they blocked rclone. His aggressive sync settings triggered an automatic block, which they then tweaked so it would not happen again so easily.
Btw: They are planning to make Linux apps for drive, most of their devs use Linux themselves. But their ceo said it's their most complicated service to develop for Linux. (He named the many different file systems as one of the reasons.) And that they simply don't have the resources right now to work on it.

Can't Manually Partition in Installer
Wild guess: It might help reducing /deleting the partitions from within the already installed os, so that the space you want to configure in the installer is "unclaimed" space.
(I had a similar problem with a preexisting bitlocker partition, although i did get an error mesage for that.)

Google account is connected, but I see "Access denied to ." in Dolphin for GDrive
Got it working now by creating my own client id on google: https://developers.google.com/identity/oauth2/web/guides/get-google-api-clientid (and activate the google drive api library here: https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/library)
with this, i got a warning that google has not verified my app, but you can continue.
PM or ping me if you need help setting it up.

Google account is connected, but I see "Access denied to ." in Dolphin for GDrive
i tried it myself (TLDR: it didn't work, it's a a problem with KDE and the google API). I gained some understanding of the problem though: The google.provider file shows that kde doesn't even ask for permissions to access the drive. Using the above mentioned method of overriding it, i added the scope for drive access. For the new scope to take effect, you must add the google account again. however, this time, after entering my 2FA, i got the message that the app is blocked. Conclusion: Google wont allow the KDE client id to use drive access. However, using the GNOME ID and secret also didn't work, it too says it is being blocked.
Near the end of the discussion i linked, some KDE devs explain that google added some bureaucracy and apparently no one seems to be interested enough to go through all the documentation and what not in order for google to allow KDE again. Maybe when the new Steam OS goes public there will be enough interest for someone to fix this?

A comment further down explains how to overwrite that https://discuss.kde.org/t/kde-online-accounts-not-signing-in/3411/50
Instead of editing a package-owned file in /usr, you can instead copy it to ~/.local/share/accounts/providers/google.provider, and edit the ClientId/ClientSecret there. It will override the one from /usr. This should work on immutable distros. It also won’t break next time the package in question is updated and overwrites things in /usr.Note that this will also override updates being done to that file when kde updates that file.
