well, moving the files fully on to the nvme ssd seems to have alleviated much of the issue. Thanks for the help troubleshooting!

i'll give it a shot, but i'm not sure it completely applies -- could be an issue with the server not fetching the world files fast enough but i'm not sure what would cause that

i'm hesitant to delete our nether as we've put a bit of work in to it, and it's more an issue leaving the nether than entering it
