first time downloading Minecraft and mods

so i talked in here and im about to install mc rn from modrinth app which version of the game should i install so that i can use distant horizon and bliss shaders
and does it matter which version of vanilla Minecraft i downloaded for mods

If you haven't logged into official MC launcher before, you have to log into it first, then you can uninstall it and use Modrinth

ok installed the launcher but I can't open it,it says Minecraft launcher is currently not available in your account.make sure you are signed in to the store

1.20.1 and up
1.20.1 has the biggest amount of various mods
1.21.1 is a bit newer with newer vanilla content and more up to date mods, but far less mods
1.21.4 is newest that Iris and DH supports so you can't go newer then that right now, it has even less mods then 1.21.1

There are a lot of client side only mods and I'm not sure if all of them updated to 1.21.1 or 1.21.4

so it's not letting me log on modrinth app (can that be changed)
also how do i change version on mc launch if i can't use modrinth app
