What are your opinions on wearing Tudor period clothing?
I really like the kind of clothing men wore during the Tudor era. Very masculine and look really nice.
Obviously they are no longer in style but I wonder if I could still make them fit into my wardrobe somehow?
Please give me your thoughts

This can’t be serious lol
I’m cackling
Do you mean clothing people actually wore, or the clothes from paintings of rich people from that era?
No you can't make them work. They are cosplay today.
…Pics? Post some inspo. Dare I ask, what’s masculine about it?
You’ve gotta be JERKIN me around
Get it
Get it????
Okay this is one example of what I mean.

Not sure what specifically is masculine about them. But I have posted some examples here:

This shirt is suitable for re-enactment of several periods in history. It is made of 100% cotton. It is available in the sizes S up to XXXL.Washing prescriptio
If the site is actively targeted towards larping and reenactment I think the general rule of thumb here would be it’s not exactly suited for day to day
That being said, that is really just a lace up shirt. Hippies wear those I feel like. You could lean into the granola vibe I guess
Also worth noting—that’s really not Tudor clothing, at least not what I imagine when I hear someone talking about “Tudor fashion”
Is granola vibe something like this:
Not clicking that
Sorry I just copy and pasted it. Wait I will edit
I know people who dress like this but they carry some "associations". I'm guessing you're in the UK from that link, and if you're looking at clothes like this you probably know similar people. If you're comfortable with that then carry on. It's difficult to describe it as "fashionable" though.
Is this what you mean by granola vibe?
granola is slang for hippie/outdoors vibe
someone who would hike a lot and eat granola bc it's healthy
I don’t necessarily want to be fashionable either because trends come and go right. I try to create my own style. If I did go for this type of clothing. It would really just be one part of my wardrobe.
Look, if you like lace up shirts im sure you can make them work.
I doubt anyone has the swag required to unironically pull of a full tudor era fit outside of like renfaires
You'd need similarly dated pants, jacket, and shoes or else the shirts above will stick out like a sore thumb
They're hard to integrate casually for this reason
So it would look too strange? I don’t necessarily want to fit into trends either rather want to create my own style but if it would make me look too weird then I’ll leave it
It will make you look like you are LARPing
It will look strange to a lot of people. But if you like the way it looks, wear it. If you don't, then don't.
your style will look odd to most people
Well the lace up shirt is kinda similar to hippies granola style too?
a boy who went to my university was widely known across town for wearing blouses and while it didn't really stop him it was like his entire reputation
they looked fine
lol oh right okay I understand.
You don't have to follow trends, and you are more than welcome to dress like Peter Pan. But if you're worried about looking strange, then I wouldn't go in this direction.
If you like this direction, by all means. But you seem unsure.
It’s alright I’ll leave it.
To be blunt in the UK it will make you look like a specific kind of far right agitator at metal shows.
If you want to dress like this, I recommend going to the renaissance fair if there is something like that near you
You’re saying they looked okay in it?
he wasn't particularly stylish, it just became his calling card
yeah i am not trying to discourage you, if you want to wear it then you should. but if you're concerned about how it might look i think we're just trying to tell you that, yeah, it's going to look weird to people. and you might be conveying something you don't mean to.
Alright that sounds like a good balance actually thanks 👍
I do appreciate that this guy is doing the French Tuck with his tunic
these do remind me a bit of those military popovers
it's mostly the lace that larp-ifies it
Not the sword?
goals
i knew someone in high school who dressed like a cowboy and while it definitely made him stick out (didnt help he was pretty noticeably autistic and had, uh, controversial opinions he liked to talk abt) he rocked it with no hesitation so he just was the guy who dressed like a cowboy
you could either just go full period costume in everyday life or maybe try to incorprate it into a hippie look with like flip flops and weird pants like a one-dimensional character in a comedy set in hawaii or california on the beach
a more modern version could be like a relaxed fit or oversized long sleeve henley
Thank you. That’s the approach I’m going to take, so I’ll take inspiration from those pieces but make sure they fit current times too cos I would defo hate to stand out. Too uncomfortable.
I would really take the earlier advice.
If you don't want to stand out just wear what other people around you are wearing. There a basics guide in #fashion-guides I'm sure
Yeah tbh I was just staring at that picture trying to figure out what it reminded me of but if you want to go with the lace shirt then go for it and own it
Honestly this might not be that out there compared to like a cowboy outfit. Without the sword
Alright mate will do thank you.
Hard disagree
i mean it still stands out but someone dressed like this is gonna get attention
probably depends on context though
Lmao
Okay
Pick the dumbest example ever ig
nah i pick that bc im thinking of a specific person i knew who dressed like that
like the specific picture
(the guy i knew wore a bolo tie as well)
even that look has a reference point from the last, like, century
true
Western stuff is so much easier to wear
oh its definitely easier to wear in general
with the lace up shirt you're gonna be doing a bit of cosplay in a way western stuff doesn't inherently do
but the lace up shirt and black pants doesnt have like loud patterns or something like a powdered wig or big collar to draw more attention than the fact that you're already wearing something unusual, i guess is my point
but it definitely depends on context
If this is your example I don’t think you’re approaching this in a reasonable way
Literally everyone wears jeans. Westerns are just button up shirts with different buttons. Western boots are just boots.
The tunic is cosplay it doesn’t matter how loud the pattern is you’re still dressing like peasant
Wearing milsurp is cosplay too
yeah fair enough, i think the cowboy comparison was a bad example bc i was thinking of a very specific person i knew where it was like part of his personality
the cowboy swag isnt really cosplay unless you do a fake accent and roleplaying but that outfit does inherently say peasant
I feel like this was solved for op about 20 messages ago and now it's just arguing
yeah youre right tbh
take it from someone who dresses in western clothing in the UK, you will stick out horrendously and honestly not in a good way
Aight wrap this up
