Hotend change, what I need to change in klipper and slicer?
Hi there,
I changed my Dragonfly hotend to a Dragon HF hotend on my V-Minion. I installed everything and so far it has printed really well. Then after 10 hours of printing it clogged up twice. After googling around, I need to change the extruder flow parameter. But I don't know which parameter to change in RatOS and SuperSlicer/PrusaSlicer.
I found the flow rate test from Phaetus on github. It says that the printing flow increased from 15 to 31.5mm³/s and the extrusion flow from 46mm³/s to 62mm³/s.
I also checked the fan to see if it was running at 100% to produce enough airflow. It looks fine.
A hint in the right direction would be appreciate!

you change the extrusion rate in your slicer
You mean the extrusion multiplier right?
So there is no parameter for the flow rate in mm³/s?
This is a stupid question, but I calibrated the surface of the top layer with the superslicer flow test. The test prints I did with the Dragon hotend were perfect with the extrusion multipler, as with the Dragonfly before.
So if I interpret this, the extrusion multipler is not the reason why my hotend is clogged, is it? So there would be a problem in the cooling (fan too weak maybe?) or the extrusion or the speed of the extruder?
I haven't changed anything in the extruder (lgx-lite), it says the extrusion in the klipper/RatOS is 12mm³/s.
I don't think extrusion multiplier is your problem
I don't know where to start, to fix this problem :pepehands:
I checked e_steps from my extruder. And there are fine, too
From your description it sounds like heat creep, so you need to check the fan is spinning at the correct speed and make sure it is blowing across the hotend and not trying to pull air across the hotend. If all that checks out, get a different fan
So I reassembled everything and did a pid tuning. Loading the filament worked fine. I also extruded 50mm of filament. But when I started a test print, the extruder was missing steps (clicking) and it stopped extruding. I also noticed in the temperature curve that the temperature increases by +/0.2°C. The fan makes a low, irregular noise that I can only hear when I am close to it. Will replace the fan with a spare one I have here and order a Sunon fan, which is a recommendation from a reddit post
heat creep
I think this is the problem...
