Mending Clothes - Topic of the day 1/13/25
Try as we might, sometimes bad things happen to good clothes. How do you deal with damaged clothing: do you fix it yourself, get someone else to do it, replace the item, live with it, something else? What factors lead you to choose one action over another?

I specifically bought a cooked cardigan so I could patch and repair it. More structural repairs and if it's simply not as exciting (crotch wear in denim) I've tended towards sourcing it to someone that knows what they're doing but there's not much barrier to most repairs
I don’t mind some natural wear and tear on casual clothing. My ego thinks I am a Savile Row tailor every time I sew a button back on.
I'm trying to find some truly insane suit fabric reweaving videos I saw on IG once upon a time

I recently wore a Buck Mason shirt with some moth holes into one of their stores, and the retail associate just gave me a new one (even though I didn’t buy it from them), which was a nice surprise.

Since I mostly wear vintage clothing I‘ve gotten pretty decent at fixing loose buttons, seams and small holes
I actually quite enjoy doing it, it‘s very meditative
i love repairing clothes, Im not very good at it but it can be fun and adds character
The glasswing owner complimented my wife’s pants yesterday :gigachad:
Mending is very fun and repetitive and it’s my favorite thing I’ve learned in a very long time
Buying most of my clothes second hand has gotten me really good at basic darning in a hurry. It's honestly super easy.
I’m slowly repairing a very old and sentimental pair of carhartts. I’ve learned a lot and I’m excited to try it on other things now that I’ve got some practice. I always love the look of repaired clothes when that are in waywt.
Mending clothes is cool. It’s a good way to buy less too
I don’t really know how to do any “cool” mends but I feel a little proud for doing some functional ones
recently went to a sock darning party and went home with two repaired socks and a potato
The dream, honestly
Love mending. My brown cords are slowly getting a bit thin around the Knees. Looking forward to the day I have to patch them.
How do you deal with the edges of the patches? Are they sewn under?
Yeah
