How has your style progressed in 2024? Do you feel like you are in a different place fashion wise than at the start of the year? Where will you go next?

This hit me too in my early 30s, and it's been tough to reconcile with honestly

One pair of boots for my boy to give up on ivy Your style is pretty playful but it never feels young imo. For what it’s worth

pretty much everything I buy (not really)

I'm still retaining some playfulness, but this is after I've offloaded a lot of my older wardrobe - Cav Empt, Undercover, etc. when I was dressing much closer to "streetwear" and skate adjacent haha

I essentially began revamping my style over a year ago so basically 80% of my wardrobe has changed -- which makes it hard for me to articulate what actually did change. I think in general, I understand things like silhouette and brand identity better, and that I could better appreciate clothes in a deeper level. I'm still working on refining what my aspirational personal style is but overall I've been having a lot of fun with it. If anything I feel like there's a lot of styles I haven't tried, but rn I just particularly want to be in the streetwear realm

For me 2024 was about learning to be comfortable. Comparing my fits from late 2023 to late 2024 I can definitely see the difference. This went hand in hand with further exploration into everything I’ve known and loved for a while now and I think the added level of me actually being comfy in my clothes does a lot for my fits. Compare February https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1207724673367019550 to December https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1321850417876828211 I can see the difference, I don’t know how outwardly visible it is though. I’m mostly also at a much better place than I was overall, so that might be part of it.

relevant - i think the short answer is early last year i wore clothes, now i wear fits

the slightly longer answer is i shifted from buying things just because they were slim fit or just because they were designer (even though they didn't suit me or fit, see above pants) or just because they were ~unique~ to buying and wearing things that i liked and that inspired me in some way, more tailoring, more wide fit things, more interesting interpretations of trad clothing, and just generally experimenting with clothes as a hobby. this fit probably was a permanent shift for me https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1215292551272341504

2024 was my first full year of taking fit pics, and, while I don’t think my style has progressed significantly (sadly), I do think it has really helped me to refine what will probably look good, or at least not bad. I generally don’t change clothes once I put them on (I’m sure you can tell), so this has been a big help. Similarly, it’s helped me let go of stuff that I like for me in the abstract but hasn’t been working in practice.

this is the first year that i feel i'm secure in my personal style. this was the first time that i felt good about my warm weather outfits, compare summer 23 (first two) with summer 24, i got a lot more confident and discovered the kinds of shapes that work best for me and my wardrobe. summer 23 was important for me, because that experimentation led me to where i'm at now.

i also went into the warm weather season this year with that in mind, that i needed to apply what i learned the previous year this year i think i want to be careful to not get complacent, i need to keep iterating and experimenting

for me I‘ve really learned to embrace longer and looser styles and realised that an outfit can also be interesting and fashionable without a mini skirt or cropped top which gave me much more options and silhouettes to work with also I used to thrift a lot before but nowadays I buy basically everything I need secondhand which elevated my wardrobe soo much

Damn the glow up go hard between ‘23 and ‘24 Also, my style has improved since joining this discord in early December from Giving Zero Shits (hobo style) to Giving A Little Bit Of A Shit (fancy hobo style)

Also I‘ve finally cleansed my wardrobe of everything I bought during the „I‘m an adult now I have to dress like it.“-corporate girly phase I had at 19 Feels good to be myself again I think your style now is so unique, it really feels like it‘s truly yours, that‘s really cool

I took shitty photos and made bad choices and I will do that less now simple

Definitely pushed way outside my original comfort zone and finding I enjoy learning new approaches as much as improving on the ones I'm comfortable with. I don't think I'm abandoning the earlier style just learned to layer on more texture.

I started wearing my trousers higher up in 2024, that was about it.

Early last jear I still had a very lacklustre hodgepodge wardrobe and was trying to do Ivy because I just gotten my first job as a researcher at uni, by now I have kinda embraced my inner cowpoke and am trying to be more playful/less serious in my mode of dressing.

Its funny to me that these are almost exactly a year apart and are superficially very similar lol

it's been incredible to see how your bounds have expanded and how your various inspirations are conveyed over the past year. it definitely informed some of how I approach things

I don't want to seem like I'm emptily mirroring back the praise but obviously that means a lot coming from one of the best in the business. 🙏

this year I learned to check measurements and really learn what measurements work and which don't. trial and error

I've only really seen the "current"ish versions of each of you who have posted photos in this threads (holfram, zeo, calla, elvander, and leo). Really cool to see the look back - you each have super well defined senses of style and it's easy to assume you all have always had that. All of the "before" photos were still good by all means still but noticeable improvement that is really encouraging for me as I'm still pretty new to posting here and still exploring a bit myself

my style has changed a lot tbh, almost completely unrecognizable. got more into tailored clothing, and overhauled my wardrobe after weight changes. only 4 peices + some graphic tees survived, rest were given to my dad

I paid almost no attention to dressing well before this year, so I overhauled like 80% of my wardrobe this year. I soaked up a lot of knowledge about materials, fit, measurements. Made some mistakes along the way.

Different in that I'm thinking about it for literally the first time in my 40+ years of life. Hasn't really translated much into action yet, largely due to a mix of limited time to engage, limited dollars due to 3 big international trips in one year and ongoing weight loss goals that make it silly to spend money on most types of clothing right now. I will say I'm feeling much more confident looking at clothing, attending to fit and generally having a discerning eye and the ability to say why I do or don't like something. Which sounds kinda lame typing it out, but is progress for me. I am expecting much more action in 2025 - no international trips, can slow down some at work (hurray for tenure to any fellow academics) and should hit my goal weight by March-ish. Fingers crossed it comes to fruition.

I've managed to cross most items off my list this year and divide my style per season so I can move forward while building my wardrobe and keeping a solid rotation with experiment and leaving things behind that I'm tired of first half of the year was still carried by rockstar chic vibes, wearing darker colours, denim and chelsea boots. now moved to a more military chic inspired aesthetic, wearing more hermes shirts with military trousers and loafers Whereas last year I was dressing more casual ivy I keep the versatile or really strong/unique pieces and let go of everything I don't wear enough at the end of the season
