Online Clothing Stores (Ssense, Ebay, etc.) - Topic of the day 12/24/24
There's about as many clothing stores online as there are things to buy. What are your favorite sites to shop online? What sites should you avoid? Do you have a particular strategy for what/when/how to buy something online? Is there anything that's worth just buying in person?

The best strategy for buying clothes is to find the brand in person to try on and then wait for sales and order online
APOC is really cool to browse through as an art gallery but I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to buy anything from there
Good idea, though not always possible
Of course. But that’s why living in a city is the best
I prefer a physical store but it’s okay.
I’ll support a local boutique any day even if it’s marginally more expensive
At the prices we pay for clothes it really doesn’t matter anymore
No Man Walks Alone, great service and great selection. You can also drop in by appointment if you're in NYC.
The top clothing store for me has to go to Marrkt.
It's got a decent selection of good brands, they've got sizing upfront and the delivery fee is pretty fine too. eBay's fine too, although ime a bit hard to browse.
I usually buy on vinted. A few tricks:
search in the language of the brands country. Giubbotto instead of jacket or pantalon instead of trousers for instance
adding 'cm' in the search only shows results with measurements in the description
I will always try to buy in person if it’s possible, I don’t really like online shopping, but scrolling the ssense sale page for too long is fun
Wish vinted was viable for international
Yoox prices also still all over the place since the Mytheresa acquisition
Beyond that just know your measurements
where do you live? I have access to portugal, spain, france, belgium, NL, luxembourg and italy
USA
oh haha, i thought vinted was only for europe
Esp bc of the no forwarding service policy haha
Yeah the euro regions are locked for non euro
There's a very small us region for vinted too
But not much going on there
i cant access germany or austria which have great second hand markets, as well as the UK
cant complain though
weird how the NL or belgium are not in germany's region but italy is
so if i'm in the uk i can access...
the uk

Tend to shop online cause there is a low amount of stores stocking what I want nearby, and online tends to go on bigger sale and most of the top ones have measurements and returns these days. Plus a lot of brick & mortar locations only have a tiny subset of the full stock even available to try. Espicially for designer, my city is pretty lame espicially if I want a specific piece. Totally dependent on the buyers at my local stores (who have broadly not impressed me). Or the brand only sells through themselves and I don't live in NYC
depends on the local boutique imo
i support local businesses i don't support assholes or morons or transphobes but that's an isolated dc phenomenon i reckon
I mean I don’t go to those anyways if I don’t like them tbf
I'm sure there was something soup suggested about an eBay store for PRL

Would love to go in-person but live in a midsize US city with limited fashion options + 90% of my time for engaging with this happens way too late in the day to be going out to stores. So online it is. Taking careful notes here, virtually everything I buy online has been from the brand website vs 3rd party
In London for the holidays and desperately hoping I can sneak out for even a few hours to check out Savile Row or similar.
UK alone has a better selection than a lot of the combined markets
Mostly online shop due to the reasons Smiles listed. Plus, even though I live next to NYC, I don't have to pay tax if I ship to my home state (no clothing tax) vs buying in-store in NYC.
Would love to support B&M stores more though (though I do shop from small B&M shops' webstores often)
If I'm honest I would like to go to a second hand store that has the styles of clothing I like, that has the brands I like, that has clothes in my size and that's reasonably priced.
I know 1 store that's like that, but it's half an hour away and it doesn't fit those criteria every time.
I will happily miss out on sales if it means supporting brick in mortar stores I like. But yeah eating tax when shipping home would be free hurts a little sometimes
often times you can buy in store and ask to ship home
that's what I did a lot of the times when I lived in nj
yup! I try to and also try my best to shop at the smaller shops online
def miss not paying that tax
but it's also nice to know I have no other option so I might as well just buy right away if I like something in person
eBay goated
Made an account yesterday, probably gonna buy a wrangler denim shirt today
Passed on the one I was looking at because I realized it was missing a button on the front
