BalenaEtcher older versions give malware errors on mac and shutdown.
Since the new versions of balena etcher never work for flashing and I had to resort to older versions to flash ratos2.1 and all of a sudden when I go to redo my chonk the older versions are closing with a malware error and putting the app in the trash. Rasberry pi imager writes the image but I never see ratos coe up in my wifi. With balenaetcher is came right up afterwords but now I cant use it.

I found somebody with a windows computer and downloaded an older version of etcher and it worked. After updating everything then running the config my X and Y motors are swapped. Same wire set up where it was running last time

Probably a false positive. When I download things like that Windows does not want to download it until I tell it that it is safe. May be something similar in your case.
it doesn't even give me the option.
There sort of isn't an option in Windows either, in windows you have to click on some symbol which is not self explanatory and then tell it it is safe, in your case the question mark maybe? Sorry I don't use Macs, so it is a shot in the dark.
@DJDupid "Since the new versions of balena etcher never work for flashing..." what version/platform have you tried? And what it say when "never work for flashing"? Didn't open? Didn't start flashing? Crashes?
Can you try it again with freshly downloaded Balena (and for architecture you have, I mean X86 vs Arm)?
The last resort, but only when you're 100% sure the app is malware free, you can open your current copy of Balena by right click->Open (only in that case it will show you button "open anyway" or so, simply the way @cgrr suggested).
You can also flash image on SD card using built-in command
dd
(in Terminal app): https://gist.github.com/jordelver/3139365 but beware, there's no space for mistake (one single typo can delete your internal disk in your Mac). EDIT: The dd if=....
part should start rather as sudo dd if=...
(you need admin privileges to direct write on disks and sudo ...
, typically followed by password prompt, does the trick).
It's basically the same as Balena does, just without nice coat and more intuitive disk selection.Gist

How to write an image file to an SD card under Mac OS X (for Raspberry Pi) - gist:3139365
It no longer asks open anyways. Ive done the right click and open deal and also tried holding control down then right clicking open. My mac is quickly trashing all older versions of balena. I have tried downloading all version. 1.18.11 was always working for me but cant run now.
Old(er) versions of Balena are signed with nowadays expired certificate. That's most probably the reason why you can't run it.
Rasberry Pi imager flashes the card but the only issue is I cant complete the next step where you see Ratos in your wifi and log into it to set up the wifi.
when I used balena etcher ratos would pop up in my wifi list within a minute or two
etcher 1.18.11 was my go to on the last three printers.
the newest versions just says the SD cant be read and gives a write error. This seems to be very common with other people.
Rasperry pi imager breaks the image because it applies all sorts of customizations if you don't disable it.
RUFUS should work as well
Oh.. macos... uuuhm sec.
@DJDupid have you tried the most recent version of balena etcher (1.19.25) ?
yes and it says it cant write to the sd card
any other programs I can try?
What would I need to dissable in order to get it working? It flashes soothly but the only hiccup is that after completing the flash and inserting the sd card back into the pi, RatOs never appears in the wifi network. With the older versions of balena this wasn't an issue
custom settings
the custom settings is why it doesn't work with raspberry pi imager

Just remap your motors in the configurator or invert the direction of them as needed:
I inverted them and they are working now.
