unable to open a connection to x
I am getting this now. when I run steam manually, it runs fine

I get that sometimes to when I switch from steam game mode to plasma.
rm -rf .Cache/ seems to help? also a bunch of other apps fail to start complaing about XI get this specifically if I try to swap to desktop mode while a game is running

i deleted cache and it doesn't appear as often
okay, i got it today but after rolling back multiple times, i deleted my cache as well
I haven't gotten this in a while. I still sometimes have the really slow transition between gamemode to plasma that I thought was associated with this
just happened again just now
i started getting issues with luxtorpeda randomly appearing when i go into desktop mode, around the same time this happened
i sorta fixed that by updating to luxtorpeda 71, but then i started getting other unrelated issues, i rolled back several times and finally got the x display error you reported
I often get that error when switching to desktop mode. Found a workaround though. The way I've been avoiding it is by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 then login in via terminal, then run
startplasma this gets me into desktop mode. But gamemode is still running in the background and I can switch to it with CTRL+ALT+F1 and desktop mode CTRL+ALT+F2 while a game is running. So kind of the best of both worlds (provided that you using a keyboard).very nice hack 🙂
on that note, do you think Nested Desktop would work too?
Nested Desktop seems to work too (I didn't know that existed) you learn something new everyday. But Nested Desktop takes longer to load than running plasma desktop on another TTY session.
