Multiplayer/Nightly build for Oculus?
Hello everyone, is it possible to run DH in a LAN server using Oculus/Forge?
My bf and I started to play together recently, but since he's the server host right now he's the only one who sees distant chunks loading.
We saw that there's an experimental build of DH that allows server sided chunk streaming, but since we're using forge(we have to, for mods like alexs mobs), we're not sure how to set up the nightly build.
I saw that DH 2.3(with multiplayer support) requires oculus 1.8, but I can't seem to find that anywhere for the life of me. Really hoping there's a solution that doesn't require us to use iris 😦

DH nightly + oculus can be a hastle to set up. try this build: https://github.com/Asek3/Oculus/actions/runs/11198312573/artifacts/2020008921 and if it errros about requiring oculus 1.8, open up the jar, edit the mod(s?) file and make it say its oculus 1.8 instead of 1.7
Thanks! Would this work with a LAN server?
So if he , as the host, simply has the DH nightly, and so do I, it would work? Or nah
i think so yea
havent heard much about LAN support
so just try and see i guess
will do , sorry to be a bother - but how hard is it to open the jar and edit the mods file? I've never done any coding or anything like that
seems like it didn't work just trying to launch it
still says it requires 1.8
@Miki_P98 can probably tell you how to do that. ive never done it myself
JAR is just z ZIP file with different name
Unzip it
Go to metadata folder (named something like META-inf, I don't remember)
Edit mods.toml
Zip it back
If you want - rename back to jar
Remember to Zip the files and not the folder
Dang, seems like it doesn't work in LAN @Puhpine 😦
Thanks for the help though!
It should work in LAN
The support was already added IIrc
hmm
this is what we both have for mods for testing, perhaps we're just doing it wrong?
C2ME slows DH generation down by up to 30%
Try updating the nightly to the newest and the same version on both clients
that nightly is the newest isn't it?
well, for 1.20.1
for DH
You have MM/DD/YYYY date format?
yeah
Why!?
that DH is the one I got here

Latest nightly was yesterday around 15:00 my time, so 14:00 UTC
Nightly can change multiple times a day, the link stays the same for convinience
I'll update it to be safe, should I be going with merged or forge?
I assume forge since that's what we're on
Just use merged
But there shouldn't be a difference
It actually seemed to be about the opposite, for me anyways, just tested
with c2me: https://streamable.com/wplw9r
about 23 seconds
without: https://streamable.com/xxp2oi
about 33 seconds
That is loading in the LODs. Miki is talking about generating them
ooh
so you're trading faster loading for slower generation? :Thonk:
Apparently. I didn't know c2me sped up LOD loading
yup, can't get it to work on LAN :<
host:
client
same Generation settings in the mod settings
multiplayer settings(both on client and host, wasnt sure if needed on client but did it anyways)
There is no way, loading is from the DB, no C2ME code should touch it
My guess is just luck
The generation is the slowpart though, the 10 additional seconds every time you join the world is nothing compared to additional 2h of generation
gochya
inb4 lan support was only added on non 1.20.1 versions or something lol
more likely that I'm just not doing it right though
Does it say "server has full dh support" in the F3 menu?
For the client
hmm lemme see
doesn't look like it
woops
some missing text there
Yea, try with a smaller gui scale
And you are also using the nightly build on the host right?
yeah latest nightly build and oculus 1.70
on both the client and host
all the same mods copied over between us
Maybe connector is breaking it? Just a guess
I don't see why you need connector anyway
some of the mods we have are fabric only
just not active atm
Aah I see
Can you try with just DH?
hm yeah
nope, still doesn't work
with only DH in there
still says server doesnt support DH on the client
Darn. Maybe @пшш knows what the problem might be then
I thought your PFP looked familiar. I used to play a lot of The Wild West
oh haha awesome, it's crazy how old that game is now, still has players
we're basically releasing TWW 2 soon
completely overhauled/changed
Oh wow
Yea I remember it being a while since the last major update. And that was a few years ago now
show server logs
where do I get that?
/logsstored
You should send your
latest.log
file to provide additional useful information.
Logs are usually located in the .minecraft/logs
directory.
On Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\logs
On Linux: ~/.minecraft/logs
On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/logs
Please upload the file to mclo.gs instead of sending the raw file. This makes reading the contents of the file a lot easier and improves the chances of you getting the help needed.
After uploading the file, click on Save
and send the link.I only got this from my session just now
am assuming it's that? :o
yep
here's that https://mclo.gs/q8gSGTe
I also get this crash message when I close the server, not sure if related
If you want server side dh forget about oculus, the dh compat build has performance issues and quite a lot of bugs. Not worth using
