I like their socks a lot.
Yeah, their socks are good for the price
The rest of their stuff feels too plain for me personally
Uniqlo has, as it always had, pretty good basics at a price point competitive with other fast fashion brands but somewhat higher quality.
I used to shop there a lot while I was still figuring out things more. These days - now that I’m a bit more settled and very much trying to buy less but better, I basically only buy their boxers.
I love their short sleeve polo shirts - bought a couple of them
is it just my impression or has quality gone down recently?
maybe it was never that good and I just didn't see it before
They make my favorite underwear and I'm a big fan of their airism undershirts. Nothing else really excites me from them these days
Uniqlo was so essential starting my own fashion journey. Cheap OCBDs, skinny black jeans, some interesting graphic tees, etc. I remember one of my first pieces I ever got was this dip-dyed shirt, and I wore that everywhere. I thought it was so cool I could get "good looking" clothes this cheap.
And eventually I graduated as I was able to spend more on more expensive brands that had way more interesting clothes, but I still give them a look every now and again, and I still pick up a piece every now and again for experimenting. Like I haven't worn turtlenecks that much before, so I picked up one of their mock necks a few weeks ago to play around with that sort of styling.
I still recommend them to people first starting out. I think Uniqlo is still a solid choice for people just starting to dip their toes into styling better without breaking the bank.
Honestly, the only brand at their price point to actually have consistent QC. It's freakishly consistent, as is their other brand Theory. Haven't really tried GU/Miu Miu/JBrand/Helmut Lang so can't speak on it for those.
They also offer item measurements now, which is amazing.
They'll never make a good website though
Never liked their shirting fabrics and their topcoats and most of their knits aren't great either, but they always have some solid pieces, and the innerwear is great
I've got about 2 things from Uniqlo, one of which is very similar to something else I've got from Levi's.
Actually no, 3 things, I remembered something else.
As someone who uses their basics, it definitely has. They moved production a few years ago, and at least stuff like socks, underwear and tees feel much flimsier than they did a few years ago.
:uniqlo: slander incoming, I prefer muji socks more
They slip less somehow
I’ve been paying more attention to fashion this year and I think there’s decently interesting stuff here and there, maybe like a piece or two per collab?
Tell my family to cremate me in a white Uniqlo U T-shirt
there is exactly one thing i want from uniqlo and it’s the ff14 collab shirts i missed
that’s kind of it
I’ve been happy with their stuff, they are surprisingly good sizes for different body types. I wear their flannels mostly
Women's Uniqlo 💚
fell off pretty hard i think. everything ive bought from them in the past few years has been quite bad with the exception of one item from the EG collab. their airism shirts are horrible and i sweat so much in them vs a regular cotton t shirt
muji socks are dope but im uneasy about the ethics
Uh oh
This is probably something I should know about
Is it xinjiang cotton by any chance
yup
most of their cotton is xinjiang cotton
when the scandal broke out they just changed the tags lol
"extra long staple cotton"
"organic cotton"
Kamakura too
if there's a cotton garment that feels silky at muji, well, yeah
:why_dissolve:
what's xinjiang cotton 👀
ah
I see
I used to be so excited for the annual UU fall drops
But I haven't even looked in like 3 years lol
I don't know if their designs just got less interesting or if I just no longer crave "basics"
I like their briefs.
I honestly think one advantage uniqlo has over j crew or gap or equivalents is that they feel like (citation needed) they have way less stuff to sort through
Sometimes I just feel like I'm just staring at a whole lot of random clothing
But that could just be bc I'm used to Uniqlo
Some of the collabs are honestly fantastic (given the price)
Quality has definitely dropped over the years, but I still think it's a great place to selectively buy some basics. Their denim is probably the best in its segment, they have very good qc even if material composition has cheapened, and I think the in store experience is quite good for how many skus they carry. You just can't blindly buy something from there without a little bit of basic research
I hadn't bought anything from uniqlo in several years, but recently picked up a few Uniqlo U pieces that I was impressed by. I think there is a quality retrospective waiting to happen on UU's persistence over almost a decade.
You are not going to get anything wild or super novel from UU, but that's also not really the appeal of mainline Lemaire either. What you do get is pieces with great drape and silhouettes and rich color choices that blend seamlessly from one season to the next. There's your typical Lemaire bits of heritage inspiration tastefully distilled down, and they clearly take advantage of Uniqlo's material R&D to try to use alrernative fabrics where it makes sense. They can be worn interchangeably with mainline pieces and there is an interesting mix of pieces that are unique to the uniqlo collection and pieces that are clearly drawing from the same source of inspiration as current mainline collections.
My local mall got a uniqlo, and that and the imax are the only reasons I step foot in there ever anymore
Still remains to be seen what role Clare Waight Keller may play in Uniqlo moving forward, but if her collections are any indication I do worry the brand will take yet another step closer to H&M with younger, trendier pieces and lower quality
Despite owning a silly amount of jackets, I still wear this a bunch. Just incredibly practical and easy to style.
