Brand Spotlight: Brycelands - Topic of the day 9/9/24
"Bryceland's, founded by Kenji Cheung and Ethan Newton in 2015, is an expression of the classic men's wardrobe (eta: they also now make womenswear, this was not uodated in their brand copy). Combining a basis of custom tailoring and men's haberdashery, we cast a classical eye for proportions and a desire to create elegance and masculinity on to every element of clothing, from workwear to the evening. Our approach is to build wardrobes that will flatter the wearer at every occasion, creating timelessness without falling into costume, ruggedeness without sacrificing elegance, and an identifiable signature without relying on logos or brand imagery." Some pretty cool stuff, but outside a price range where I can buy a thing and still feel good about it tbh
brand that exists so derek guy can post about it
I think brycelands has some pretty cool stuff that is mostly pricier than i’m willing to pay but i’ve been eyeballing a couple things lately that i may pull the trigger on
Definitely want to invest in a piece at some point. But yea, the prices are up there. The anoraks go so hard tho
Got a sawtooth westerner from them and its really good. Cut is pretty perfect.
Love them as inspo! I only have the thunderbird slippers from them and they’re very nice. Prices are high but so is the quality. I think you can get the look for a lot cheaper outside of their tailoring just in eBay and such tho
It won’t be exact but most people aren’t going to notice
Yeah. A lot of their stuff is vintage inspired and you can just get the thing their stuff is based on a lot of the time
I do really really love the brand and the POV they have. I find it interesting and everyone that works for the brand has their own style that is distinctly Bryceland’s but also their own
Though I will say that a lot of their stuff feels a little bit like elevated basics.
Like its a western shirt but incredibly nice and high quality
Etc
Thats my hot take for today lol
(I still like them though and will propably get some more stuff further down the line)
They also now have a women’s line which is really cool

Yeah. Really dig that line. Wish any of it would fit me
I like da clothes
They make the platonic ideal of the thing
This!
Not a brand id imagine buying my whole wardrobe from but i dont think anyone would regret getting a single piece from cause despite the price youre almost guaranteed to love it
I love my sawtooth westerner
Samesies - really looking forward to wearing it a lot more this fall now that the temperatures permit it
Grail pieces for sure, a lot of thought goes into their design
Yes you can get similar versions for much cheaper, but you gotta determine if those pieces will give you the same fuzzy feeling or not
For some people a vintage version that inspired the piece will be their grail they will hopefully love forever, and for some people the modern version will be that grail
I want their sawtooth westerner. It’s the platonic ideal of the western denim shirt imo
I really want to see their sales stats. My bet is that that shirt really is a workhorse for them money whise
I have a fair number of their pieces and pretty much love them all. The absolute essence of clothes that wear in, not wear out. And all kinds of great details.
Having said that, I'm lucky enough to be able to go try them on in person. As they are quite pricey, I can understand why spending that much without having a strong understanding of sizing might be a concern.
Ethan has told me directly that they make the most of their money off selling a small number of key, really popular pieces. No doubt the Sawtooth Westerner is one of them!
What really helps in the EU is that shipping is free and they handle taxes and duties, so if you retun something you get refunded the full amount (excluding the cost of return shipping)
Also second sunrise in sweden has some basic pieces by them in stock and its cheaper to order through them
Its awesome truly
Ethan has stated in an interview iirc that he wants to make clothes that will end up in a vintage store one day and i think thats a really cool mindset to have
Kinda speaks to his intent with style and also longevity
Also i think its cool that their stuff has a pretty wide size range - i think a lot of their pants go up to W44 for example which is not the norm for brands of that size (looking at Husbands Paris Jeans ending at fucking W34 bc "we have trouble selling them in larger sizes")
I like their pieces and their overall look. but I guess my question is: at this price point, why not just get RRL?
Something to be said for supporting a smaller business
An underrated aspect of brycelands too now that im thinking about it is if you buy a piece you can go to their instagram and find 10 examples of that thing being styled, and all the fits are perfect
I think Brycelands pieces look and feel nicer than RRL
But also what Weeg said
I would rather support a smaller maker
Honestly, I think RRL stuff is inferior. They have some cool pieces, but Brycelands has a couple people putting an incredible amount of thought into materials, details and manufactuers.
Honestly just touching the pieces, I think you can feel the difference.
Plus the whole supporting a small business run by people you can name vs. a large corporation.
