Favorites Series: Sweatshirts - Topic of the day 8/22/24
It's the middle of August which makes it the perfect time to talk about sweatshirts. :xd: What are your favorite sweatershirts of all price points? What brands have been less than stellar? How do you feel about short sleeved or sleeveless variations? What in general are you looking for in a good sweatshirt?

Kellsport/Sweatshirt USA, shit feels like armor
Real McCoys is unimpeachable
When I called them up about an order and I lived in NYC, he goes "Hows things in New York, you get mugged yet"
The most fun I’ve had with sweatshirts that have come from TSPTR. I’m also a huge peanuts fan, so that checks out.
well i’m mostly looking for one that doesn’t feel like hanes on the inside. i like them soft and cozy but hanes is like cheap-soft.
fleece vs terry
I like it when they have terry inside. That way I don’t get all the floof on my shirt.
(also i’ve been eyeballing this reversible sweatshirt that i’m chomping at the bit to get my grubby little hands on)
unironically like my J Crew one. It's a nice and thick fleece fabric. Never been a fan of the RC terry cloth ones personally
reverse side
:3
Sometimes I prefer a lighter material in a crew neck vs heavy as shit
The Strike Gold Heavy loopwheel crew is my favorite in terms of fit and fabric. The Real McCoys heavyweight crew is my second favorite.
One day I'll buy a bright red vintage Champion crew neck and then my sweats collection will be complete ™️
I want a green Camber hoody and then I’ll never need anymore sweats
Todd Snyder x champion also nice
Todd Snyder really knows their audience in terms of collabs
If you want a run-down from an uber-nerd

What makes a quality sweatshirt?
Sweatshirts vary hugely in price, from £20 at a fast-fashion brand to well over £200 from a specialist Japanese maker. And even though the price difference is that large among brands we cover - say Merz b Schwnen at £130 and The Real McCoy’s around £180 - that’s a big...
He’s right about the Warehouse
OrSlow and Studio D’Artisan also make nice loopwheel crewnecks, albeit the SDA one has a longer body than I prefer.
The Buzz Ricksons one is nice, but I’d probably buy Merz or Warehouse instead
I got this kapital one off 2nd street. Probably one of my favorite pieces, despite not wearing it too much. Normal oat gray front, some little zip pockets, perfect
The mullet of sweatshirts
I literally just want every cav empt sweatshirt
The fits are insanely good
Material great
was gonna say, my fav sweatshirt by far is my cav empt loose crewneck from 2016. Perfect crop, ideal material, big wide neck:chefskiss:
Cav empt was so ahead of its time
their stuff still looks good in 2024
Pleasantly surprised by the secondhand prices on some of these brands
I am slowly falling in love with cav empt, it's like if stone Island was cool
TAKE THAT BACK
their prices are also stupid low imo - very easy to get a hold of some great pieces without spending a ton
STONE ISLAND FOREV💥💥💥💥
I don’t see the comparison tho cav empt is like sci fi future world inspo and stone island is military inspo
I get some military vibes from cav too but that could be punk projection
Def punky military vibes from cav empt
I really want a cav empt sweatshirt too but the secondhand market is a bit slow around here. Might cop something on sale sometime
My Real McCoys sweatshirt is great apart from the fact that it's kind of boring
I should get one that's not grey
It makes a really good "standard/iconic" sweatshirt
Columbia Knit Factory is a bit under the radar - nice range of sizing, great quality, and their textures are awesome if atypical (hard to see in pic, but it's got a subtle bumpy weave):
GET THE FUCKING BADGE IN
Cav Empt? I see a bit come up second hand but mostly ugly fakes
Loop & Weft makes my favorite sweats. Incredible texture and slub in the pair I own
Yeah for sure. I like it a lot for when I'm traveling or something. Because it goes with most of my other clothes. But I reach for it a lot less at home when I can choose from my whole wardrobe
ya idk maybe my window of 'stupid low' is too high lmao
My favourite sweatshirt is a white one I bought for like 5 pounds, from a Korean brand called Sculptor that I'd never heard of. The fit is great, just the right amount of warm, cuffs are perfect
That makes sense. I use mine a lot when commuting on chilly days as well as my go-to toss-on layer when it's cold at night. I don't use it in too many fits these days.
@defenechi showtime
I think about this all of the time
If its less than $400 it's free im sorry I don't make the rules
If a shirt is under $200 USD that’s dirt cheap and if pants are under $300 that’s dirt cheap and this is how I know my brain is actually broken by clothing
If a coat is under $1000 it’s basically free and if shoes are under $500 they’re free
I think with knits if it’s under $400 it’s free so all of these sweatshirts discussed here were free
All those "help I need to build a new wardrobe on a budget" have me almost recommending designers I love for "cheap" lmao
I think the only thing Ive paid over 100 gbp for was jackets, boots, jewelery?
:pepe_love:
oh and sneakers back when I was buying those
:pepeSmug:
Maybe I SHOULD get some cav empt
Ohhhh, wait
I bought a visvim sweater lol
💸
this thing slaps
Sweatshirt feels like a garment that I've always liked but for some reason never really had in my wardrobe this entire time
Like I have sweatshirts now but I don't have a plain one and it feels like I really should
FWIW I’ve literally never felt a need for a plain sweatshirt
I want to sell my real mccoys one cause its plain to add on to char
just never wear it compared to my ALD one with embroidery
Ya they’re hard to layer so you end up with a large blob as a top layer
Ya, and I think you should probably consider what shirts you wear if you plan on wearing it a lot, since it functionally replaces it cause most people don't layer over it
Eg: if you wear mostly plain shirts, maybe a plain sweatshirt might work for you, but if you don't I think you will find a plain sweatshirt is limiting just like a plain tee is
I irrationally want a gray one
I def don't
Need one
Get one that says essentials
Very eggtart coded
cheap lambswool sucks, learned it the hard way
definitely the skims fleece crewneck
You just need to live in the sort of climate where you also need a jacket tbh
I literally have an Essentials knit grey sweater. Allow me its real warm
I like sweatshirts as a layer, and I wear them a lot in place of a fleece, especially under a rain jacket or a vest. I have a Snow Peak one in black and a Lady White Co one in “earth”. Those are safe enough that I can pair them with anything, but still give me some options to try different color palettes.
i'm less of a fan of sweatshirts now than in the past (i think my distaste for them in 2018 or so was a sign that the basic bastard may not be for me)
i like more interesting or hybrid takes on them, like snow peak's yak pile pullover or jjve's project o turtleneck, otherwise i gravitate towards sweaters moreso
target had color block sweatshirts a while ago and i remember basically living in mine during the winter; thick enough to stay warm but light enough because it was cheaply made to layer as needed
Jumpers >> sweatshirts >> fleeces in my personal ranking
when i'm fortunate enough to date, my partners tend to have very outgoing style, and i like to counter this by being aggressively normie. Gray Banana Republic sweatshirt is my go to here
