Can I switch my vanilla server to paper without losing my progress?
Hey everyone!
I've been playing on a vanilla server with some friends for over a month now. We all are well advanced in the game (think netherite and tons of farms), but I was thinking in adding some plugging to change some stuff around. I saw that I need to install the paper in order to use it, but I'm afraid that it might delete my world. Is this a possibility? Or am I just overthinking it?
I don't know if it matters or not, but I'm using enviroMC to run my server. Thanks!

"tons of farms"
sounds like you need fabric, not paper
your friend certainly wont appreciate you if something breaks when switching to paper/spigot
What's the difference between them? I thought it was all the same thing
Paper sacrifices vanilla functionality for performance
so many farms donβt work
whereas using fabric paired with perf mods like lithium & FerriteCore dont sacrifice vanilla functionality but increase performance (not as much as paper)
I have personally not found that too many farms are broken by paper. I could be wrong. You could test it with a replica of the world to see if anything breaks first π€·ββοΈ
depends on the farm
fabric runs mods
paper runs plugins
but fabric functions 100% like vanilla without mods
paper does not
things like duping (tnt included) are disabled by default
But can I use plugins on fabric?
Sorry if it's a dumb question, this is a new world to me lol
wellβ¦
technically you can using something like Arclight, but itβs not supported and causes several incompatibilities and isnβt stable

Please Avoid Hybrid Servers
Please avoid using server software that combines both mod and plugin APIs, such as Mohist, Magma, Cauldron, Thermos, CatServer, Cardboard, and others. These server software clash, as Bukkit was made for plugins and Forge for mods. Mixing them requires significant changes to the Bukkit API and Forge server code. If not done correctly, both plugins and mods can act strangely. Using these will almost guaranteed cause strange issues that make it near-impossible to assist.
If you are running 1.8 or 1.16.5, a good alternative to these is SpongeForge, a well-engineered solution that allows running Sponge plugins alongside Forge mods. Many Bukkit plugins also have Sponge ports.

-# please note some of the warning such as replacing jars is now irrelevant, however the fact they're done this suggests they may do it again, so caution should be used
