Options when summoning mirrors

Right now, I believe that when you summon a mirror, the mirror simply moves closer to you. If I summon it with multiple objects selected, I would like the mirror to be brought to the middle of the coordinates of those objects. I draw characters a lot and once I remove them from the mirror and change the angle for posing, it becomes impossible to make minor corrections. For example, if I select the left and right ears and the mirror is summoned in the middle of them, I am sure I will be able to work on the corrections.

This problem has come up in the past and I've considered tackling it a different way. How does this sound: "Save mirror settings" - these would store everything about the current mirror: position, spin, multimirror settings etc. And it would be stored with your sketch so it would go along with it

Can a piece of artwork that has been moved from the mirror be returned to exactly where it was in the mirror as it was before?

hmmmm. that's interesting. hadn't thought of that. I wonder if we need to consider the mirror as "part of the object" in some way. Or at least make it easier for people to work like that Maybe a mirror belongs to a group or a layer (which both can represent "objects in your sketch") if/when we support nested layers or nested groups this will be more useful.

When I draw a face, I use a mirror and remove it from the mirror when posing. Later, when I want to correct the face, I make a very subtle move to put it back in the mirror again, but not completely. If I could summon a mirror in the middle of two selected objects (e.g., ears), that might solve the problem.

I definitely think "center mirror to object" would be useful - in addition to the "mirror presets" i mentioned before. I will have to check as it might be tricky to implement if you've rotated your object. I don't think we record that separately at the moment so the mirror wouldn't know what you intended the transform of the object to be (it would just use the floor as it's axis)

Is it possible to select objects or group them and the point of origin is placed in the center (code) and the mirror can snap to selected group with point of origin centered?

It's tricky to do. Agree it would be easier if there was a way to mark it (save position), or associate it with a layer. Typically when I want mirror symmetry it's associated with a specific object. Symmetry is really useful if you want T-poses for animation with mixamo or other apps. I also find that I tend to change proportions as I work through the figure, due to a tendency to adjust scale as the figure progresses. Would be nice to be able to scale a group on the layer relative to the mirror plane while keeping the center axis. Simplifies realignment if the head and legs are at different proportions for example. Also makes it easier to do things like erase one side and copy flip on the mirror plane Working on a stored mirror per layer would be useful, especially if you could copy that to other layers. This would allow a figure to be separated (example large strokes, detail) or (body, clothes) without losing the symmetry advantages. Would make things like erasing/editing easier
