I have the opportunity to buy anything I want from RRL/PRL/RLPL at 50% off - what should I get?
I have a relative that works at Ralph Lauren. They are able to purchase RRL, PRL, or RLPL items for 50% off full price an 40% off sale price. I’ve been offered to give them a list of things I’d like to buy using the discount.
What would you get if you were in my situation?
General Notes
- Initial Budget (After Discount): ~$1,000
- Current Wardrobe: J.Crew, Wallace & Barnes, Faherty, and a few other similar brands; mostly purchased via eBay over last 6 months
- Current Style: Pretty much basic bastard, with a touch of surfer, western, outdoorsy, & preppy at times
Ralph Lauren Notes
- I’m not really into logos, so would prefer to avoid the Polo logo where possible
- I love the RRL style, but have avoided the brand since it typically goes for such an unreasonable premium for what it is.
- RLPL stuff looks great and seems very luxurious, but I probably wouldn’t wear most of the items to justify the investment, even with the discount
Clothing Needs
- Not many specific needs right now; I’ve been able to build up a really solid wardrobe of items via eBay and closet is pretty full
- Would happily upgrade to something better, more stylish, or very unique where makes sense (e.g. upgrade from a basic J.Crew shawl collar cardigan to an RRL cashmere one)
Thanks!

Polo bear sweater
This one? https://www.ralphlauren.com/men-clothing-sweaters/the-iconic-polo-bear-sweater/408291.html
I’ve actually been thinking of getting the Todd Snyder x LL Bean boot sweater. ~$100 on eBay. But my girlfriend keeps telling me I’ll never wear it. 🤷♂️
Any of them that have the bear on them
Kinda niche, and I'd never get these at full price, but I tried them in store and thought they were more comfortable than chucks (high arch wide feet)

Ooh, I like those, good call.
Also always liked the RRL sweatshirts. Haven't tried them though.
I love indigo so was checking out this one for sure: https://www.ralphlauren.com/men-clothing-sweatshirts/indigo-french-terry-sweatshirt/516528.html
Was gonna say, if you like it a lot, you will find times to wear it so don’t worry too much
I like the RRL herringbone fatigue pants

Ooh those are nice. I’ve been looking at some of the herringbone pants already on sale, e.g. https://www.ralphlauren.com/men-clothing-pants/slim-fit-herringbone-twill-pant/634309.html
I'd look at things you saw on ebay and missed; or you bought and they didn't fit how they should have. i.e. the person who previously owned them liked the high setting on their dryer.
Otherwise, just focus on what you like instead of "what's worth it." Unless you're looking to flip immediately, just get a couple of things you'll really want to wear over and over. That'll make you happier than any perceived value.
I'm having a bit of a RL moment myself after having worn them in the past (legit decades ago and wish I kept half of it), but like you, never a fan of logos. Still, there's a ton they do that's great. Have some fun with it. Get something boring, get something loud, get something with a bear.
This is perfect advice, thanks!
I personally would splurge on one of those insanely nice hand knit RRL shawl cardigans
I was thinking the same thing!
Flag Sweater
I think its one of the few offerings by PRL now adays that's still MiUSA
