Iron Heart
Pros: heavy denim
Cons: heavy burden on my wallet
Is Iron Heart worth the high retail price outside Japan? What's your experience? Does the brand have more to offer beyond insanely thick cloth?

I gave up buying other clothes to buy thick Iron Heart stuff and just being happy
Love their fabric, neutral to dislike their cuts
They're definitely wider cuts, I'm wearing these right this moment and frankly they're the least slim least tapered slim tapered jeans I've ever had

Iron Heart 777s-142bb Jeans - 14oz Slim Tapered Black/Black Den...
The 777 fit from Iron Heart is their newest slim tapered fit. This jean has a slim leg and tapered lower leg for a small leg opening with a medium rise. This new denim is an Iron Heart developed 14oz selvedge denim made of 100% cotton which has a black warp and black weft.
Disclaimer: These jeans are made of sanforized denim, if washed in cold ...
634 is wide enough for me but I wish the rise was at least an inch higher. Their 1955 cut seems pretty nice, but sells out fast and is very limited compared to their more "mainline" cuts
You don't buy anything other than IH? Damn
Dedication
I do own other stuff but I don't buy very many clothes very often and the last 5 things I bought were IH (jeans, jacket, thick thermal, thicker thermal, wool shirt)
Does anyone have one of their ultra heavy flannels? How do they hold up?
I do, mine's been in service a year and it's probably my most worn single article of clothing. No change in visible remaining durability. Bottom hem upturned a little because of how I wear it unbuttoned and untucked and throw it on the ground in the corner a lot.
That sounds good. There is a buffalo plaid one buried somewhere on Vinted DE that I might cop eventually.
Yeah I've got black/white plaid, probably present in half my fitpics here
I do as well. Still going strong with no visible signs of wear and tear yet. Been around more than a year or so. If you want to see visual and in depth comparison, there’s a guy on YouTube named urban lad who has an update video on his and also owns a lot of iron heart. They also have a dedicated forum for each item if you wanted to truly geek out.
I love both of mine
If you ever wanted an apron that costs more than your knife
Don't tempt me
Also if anything that would be a justification to get a more expensive knife
I honestly dig the Wabash and appreciate it wouldn't stain as easily as duck or denim.
yeah I kinda want that tbh
Yeah, the wabash is kinda cool. Certainly want a cooking apron now, but i guess i will save me some money and just get something secondhand
Its that time again where I am eyeing iron heart flannel shirts on ebay
XXL would propably fit me based on my measurements, but im not sure if I maybe want XXXL instead for that oversized flannel feel...
How much do they typically go for on eBay?
Inside Europe they are usually listed at 250€ or so, which is a bit high. I think most get sold at around 200...
that being said EU market is usually more expensive than US bc of import duties and taxes
I enjoy a big flannel. Don’t know if it would be considered stylish but I’ve had both size l and xl which work with different vibes
However if you want a true oversized fit there are doubtlessly other brands which would do it intentionally
Maybe look at the Benson flannel from Freenote Cloth as an alternative? There are a few colorways on sale from Freenote right now for $165-180 USD, so like 150-160 Euros. TBD about shipping & fees to Europe though, that may eat up most of the savings compared to buying a used UHF from eBay.
I believe the Benson is technically a touch lighter at 11oz vs 12oz for the UHF, but it's still a really well made ultra heavy flannel. I don't own any UHFs, but have checked them out in store and the weights felt similar. Where are you in Europe? There are a few shops that stock Freenote in Europe if want to compare in person.
I've got the Benson in Cobalt Blue Plaid (https://freenotecloth.com/products/benson-cobalt-plaid), which is in stock right now in XL and on sale. Great colorway. From measurements the Benson XL seems equivalent to a UHF XXL. I also just picked up the Benson in Picante Plaid (https://freenotecloth.com/products/benson-picante-plaid), though that's not on sale right now, at least directly from Freenote. I've also seen the Benson in Midnight Navy Plaid in person and it's a nice colorway (https://freenotecloth.com/products/benson-midnight-navy-plaid), though perhaps a bit less interesting. If do seriously consider the Freenote, send me a DM and I can share the discount codes I'm aware of.
Taxes+Duties are about 33% for clothing, so it does not really make that much sense unfortunately
Got it, that's too bad. Where are you located in Europe? Looks like shipping from Freenote is $30 to Paris as an example, so that Benson would be $210 USD after shipping. When are the taxes+duties applied? Not recommending trying to skirt paying the proper fees, more just curious how it works!
Might want to consider buyee, assuming it works in Europe
That's where I got my second UHF, if memory serves
Lol
I just justified buying a plaid vintage woolrich hunting suit with the argument that it is about the same cost as a IH UHF would be lol
the last flannel I bought was an old Supreme one and it verges on obnoxiously thick so that's a cheaper option
It was 40gbp
I'd expect it to be much cheaper
Price of the object yes, but shipping + duties add up sadly
Full suit was 120
Oh it's a full suit? That's pretty sick. I got a vintage plaid wool jacket for ~$30 last week
Yup. Full suit, good condition, game pouch apparently never used
Great find then
My iron heart n1 deck jacket arrived last week and I’ve been wearing it virtually every day since then. Got it used for around $350 and so far I’m in love. I don’t think I can justify the overseas retail price though.
