Honest feedback
Hello, I've been testing Dash and the experience has been a lot less smooth than I expected
- I don’t have the nice floating bar like in the videos, only the full blown ui, a lot more cumbersome to navigate and disturbing on the screen. I wonder why you dropped the floating bar, it was a brilliant Idea IMHO.
- Sliders seems unresponsive when dragging, I have to move my mouse across the whole screen to increase of 0.03 ish, and it seems to freeze quite a lot. Hold ctrl makes it better, but I have to use it all the time.
- Sometime when selecting a terrain or a scatter the contextual icon doesn't show up and it's impossible to edit it anymore. Restarting the engine didn't fix it.
- I couldn't find how to enable Nanite on the terrain.I I type nanite, I have 2 options to turn it on for actor or for static mesh, and none of them work for the terrain
- Most tutorials seem outdated, the ui is different and sometimes it’s really hard to reproduce what’s in the video, even the ones that are only 4 months old.
- If I spend 20$ a month I'd expect the tool to have minimal friction, and to me this is not the case right now. I was super impressed by the videos, and to be perfectly honest, I'm disappointed by the actual tool. The usage felt clumsy, and not completely polished.
I realize that all I said sounds super bad, but I don’t mean it in a bad way, just giving my honest feedback, but this is my own opinion, feel free to completely disregard it. The tool has a huge potential and I’d be glad to revisit it later. The concept is awesome, it really brings interesting stuff to the table.

Hi @Rémy! The floating bar should still be in Dash. Can you show us a video or some screenshots demonstrating the issue?
The other issues you've mentioned sound like perhaps an installation issue is at fault. I'd suggest giving Dash a reinstall.
For terrain, you'll need to convert it to a static mesh before it can be a Nanite mesh - if memory serves. Try typing "static" in Dash and then select the procedural to static conversion tool, then enable Nanite.
Here we go, sorry for the poor quality and the split but discord doesn't allow me to post more than 25mb files.
First one is to show that I don't have the floating bar, but the window + the unresponsiveness of the slider (note that if I hold control it's ok, but it's just weird to have to do that)
Second one is the same, but with the scatter tool
The last one is what you suggested to switch the terrain to nanite, but it doesn't seem to work
Gonna try a reinstall.
also I saw someone mentioning it, in here, but I can't type "." in the number boxes because I'm on a french keyboard. Tha makes typing numbers quite a hassle.
Hey, @Rémy sorry for us being slow to get back to you, I am gonna try to address all your thoughts:
1. Yes the floating panel with some settings we had in the beginning has been removed, for some it was great but it was hard to make it good for everyone, as people tend to use different settings most.
2. regarding the slider, the reason it is quite slow on some properties is that we wanted it to work uniformly across all tools, and some need this fine adjustment, but for other properties holding ctrl, Shift, or CTRL+shift is needed to make changes that makes sense yes. But I am noting down your feeling here, that needing to hold ctrl, almost always on certain properties, may not be the greatest solution.
3. There could be several reasons why the icon to adjust tools disappear, but most of the time it is solved by a UE restart or the reason is that the user has accidently broken the connection, for example by removing the object that was being scattered. We are happy to help you troubleshoot a specific situation of this if you reach out when the problem occurs.
4. The way Jonathan suggested is the way to do it, and I suspect the reason it did not work for you is that the convert from procedural to static did not work. Either it was a bug in the version you were testing or you just had bad luck. I just tried it in Dash 1.5.1 and it worked here at least.
5. Yes we are aware and we try as hard as we can to keep up with new videos, but it is hard when we are generally updating Dash quite often. But it is good that you complain about it for sure! 😄
6. Sorry to hear your thinking, but thanks a lot for letting us know!
7. the writing of "." has been solved now fyi.
If you are open to giving it another try I can hook you up with another trial period. Just let us know! 🙂
Hey thank you for your answers.
That's a bit too bad for floating panels I found them really great in terms of not cluttering the screen, presenting just the essential attributes for beginners and leave the possibility to pop the full blown UI for advanced users. But I understand the conundrum.
The problem with the slider is it gives an impression of unresponsiveness, which is detrimental to the experience IMHO.
About the other issues, there is else a non negligible chance that I did things wrong, so I'll try again.
I'll get latest version, which seems juicy.
I still have 6 days on my trial, that should be ok, I don't need an extension, but thank you, nonetheless.
I see what you mean, this may not be nearly the same, but we do have a little way of only showing the settings you like, "a exposed view", maybe it is something you would like, it has not gotten any focus for a long time, but it exists 🙂
It is hard to see on your videos, but it does not look very unresponsiveness nor does it feel that way for me, but I guess that feeling may vary from person to person. Is it the same with all sliders?
Let me know how it goes 🙂
