oops ...nevermind found a converter that should work with prores and MOV files
Arg webm does not work @andybak is there a specific setting required on export? Alpha and color? Just alpha?
ended up converting prores4444 to webm and exported alpha and color and that usually works with mov files.
Is this resolved? Not sure I fully understood this.
Not resolved. Converted an alpha mov file to webm and the file doesn’t load into the photos panel for import. Trying to import alpha vid
Convert in what?
Also - screenshot of the settings you used would be handy
I had an alpha file in the form of a mov file created using apple pro res 4444 which is used to create movies with alpha. Have a vid converter for webm, converted the mov file to web m, video would not load into videos folder just a camera icon would show.
Have a vid converter for webm,Can you link to it? I can't test this without trying it
DO you want the link to the converter? Its software I got from movavi ...ohhh it was free! https://www.movavi.com/videoconverter/

Ready to say goodbye to all the format fuss? Movavi Video Converter lets you easily convert videos and other media files in a split second.
Do you have an alpha pro res 4444 vid. to test as is?
tested both color and alpha and alpha only with the conversion....same issue
Video was created in apple motion 5
the vid converter was free link above...
Cool. Do you have a short ProRes sample clip with alpha I can try with it?
Via DM
Does your Movavi settings UI look the same as this?
My hunch is that it doesn't support alpha - does it claim to anywhere?
interesting. Is there a converter that you know that does? Would be great if the alpha channels were supported with mov files, especially now that apple is getting in the mix
what codec would be for alpha with web m?
yes so since mov files do can they be added for import?
I thought OB supports only web m for transparency, if so what codec need to be selected for conversion?
Sounds like it's a total mess: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/56532287/video-with-transparency-how-to-display-alpha-channel-of-webm-files-correctly-on
Stack Overflow
Video with transparency, how to display alpha channel of webm files...
About how to get a transparent background with a webm video via alpha channel,
here is one person that says you should encode with VP8 and not VP9.
WebM Alpha only displayed in Chrome?
And here is
We're at the mercy of the underlying implementations for this stuff.
ok will have to check if movavi has that codec
i understand
so vp8
Just to clarify - the quora link seemed to indicate no codecs that work with mov support alpha
i saw that it said it does...ive used it before no probs
My takeaway from the stackoverflow was more "it's complicated"
anyway - Unity only supports webm - so we're stuck with that
Look at the chat GPT answer
and i don't know which codecs beyond what that stack overflow answer says
ok. cool thanks for your help will give it another go
If web m is supported I should be able to get it to work will try the vp8 codec
yeah - just not sure that the converter isn't the problem.
this claims to support webm+alpha: https://www.shutterencoder.com/en/

I think wondershare can do it. Has a trial version
claims to be able to. Not sure that I'd use it, changed all my video associations when I had it for a while as a default behavior
ugh. I hate apps that do that...
looks angrily at XCode
Shouldn't be permitted without explicit consent, it's a security hazard imo
