Y axis Bearing vibration

I have a 500 and am trying to diagnose and resolve the vibration patterns from the bearings on the Y axis. I have squared and verified square a million ways. But when i tighten the belts i can never get my belt tension graph exactly to match and the bearings are vibrating as i pull the gantry back and forth. If i gently push the gantry it will bind a bit as it slides where with more force that isn't noticeable. This is a video of a print that shows the effects. I tried to make a video of the bearing vibration or binding but it really isn't apparent. One note is i did have the bearings fall out when i put the linear rails together and i bought a replacement set of bearings that I added. I am not sure if that changed things. The vibration seems the same no matter whether i pull the gantry back and forth and feel on one side or the other. Both linear rails seem to do it.

This was a print at different speeds. the shiny part was a slow as 35mm/s but still showed issues.

the worst defect on the front though actually was in the X axis so that throws a wrench in my hypothesis as well. although that still might make sense as that is where it is going the slowest on the y axis and doing a direction change.

My phone won't let me download that file, and it won't play in discord

Basically just explains the above picture The shiny spot is 35mm/s and the rest is faster and lots of surface artifacts.

When you are tightening your belts, you are remembering that tightening one actually tightens both right?

Yes. Tighten the front or back and it tightens the same belt. Either the upper or lower. Or do you mean something else? I am using the MFBS microlight head. I basically tighten or loosen one tooth at a time.

I’ll try posting the video from my phone.

You tighten by a whole belt tooth at a time? That's way too coarse

@MFBS will have to defend his design on that one. The question though, is this a symptom of belt tension or bearing issues.

If you have your belts too tight it seems you can get vertical lines at a constant 2mm spacing....but the spacing between you vertical lines varies, so probably not that.

I tried really loose belts but there were VFA’s everywhere and weird input shaper graphs

From your first description it sounds like your Y bearings may be binding. So you willl want to work through the usual stuff for that. But you mat slso have other issues.

Is there a sequence of steps for y binding?

You may also not get good enough beltvtension adjustment by moving them one step at a time. I use the front mounted belt tensioners. I would start by checking your gantry is square. XY joiners on left and right should hit the front top thevframe at the same time?

Done They do.

Excellent...

Corner to corner is < 1mm variance

Now with your motors turned off losen one of your Y rails and move your X gantry back and forth to get them both perfectly aligned.

Ooh haven’t tried that. What’s the whole pre-loaded thing I see when buying rails? I had to put bearings in and not sure it ran as smooth since. Maybe +- a bearing?

Then move gantry all the way back and nip up rear linear rail screws....the move it all the way forward and nip up the front screws...and then check it still moves freely and nip up all the other linear rail screws and recheck for nice smooth movement.

Not sure I can do belt tensioners with enclosed already 😦

Mine is full enclosed with belt tensioners.

Any mods you know of for belt tensioners without needing to cut holes in my panels? Thought you have AWD?
MFBS
MFBS14mo ago
You don't need to cut holes in any panels with my front mount tensioners?

Everything sits flush with front 3030 extrusions.
