Not useful imo. White is #1 and blue uni stripe is #2 in my book

Thank you! I have a blue ocbd and blue candy stripe ocbd. I have my eye on a white one from Kamakura that's cheaper than Drake's even at archive sale pricing

Gray gets to be fairly casual. Very light gray looks dirty, darker gray is casual. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Cream and other off-whites are generally fine, but also more casual, and you have to ask if you have an intersection of "wears ocbd casually" in your life. If the answer is yes, then go for it if you like it? If you're usually aiming to wear one with a jacket, or professionally where the expected attire is not so casual, then you wouldn't want one. For me personally, my casual shirts are mostly flannel rather than oxford cloth, which I wear both casually and with jackets, but there is 0.00 expectation of me dressing them "proper" formally in daily life. For special events I own more formal shirts (proper dress shirts and formal shirts). I live somewhere famously slouchy and informal so it works for me but my strategy may not work for you...

i think it depends on what you mean by 'useful.' i have shirts in cream/grey and usually wear them with black or darker denim for the office. its an easy combo and i find it to be a good casual look for me, though i tend to be a bit more informal than others

One of the main reasons for grey/cream is they can show texture of cloth more. Cream linen shirts for summer are quite cool Minor reason is you have like dozens of white shirts and variety is the spice of life I'd only branch out of you have bases covered As ppl mentioned above

Cream is great, basically the same as white in most applications or at least the same and any non-standard color. grey is less great (imo) since it may just look like a really old white ocbd. this may have been mentioned already but uni and candy stripe ocbds are pretty much the same thing (depending on brand) To tell you need to see if the width of the color line is the same as the white line If it is then it’s uni/candy If not it’s probably butcher or bengal, which have much thicker stripes At least that’s my experience How thin the line is also gives it up

University stripe (which I did read somewhere recently is the same as candy stripe - a term I was unfamiliar with) seems to always be little dots of color when examined closely. If you zoom in on the Drake’s shirt pictured above you can see the dots. That’s what makes the stripes so light, and so much better.

the dots are characteristic of oxford cloth, it's not part of the stripes

Very educational! I don’t have any non-uni stripes so I had not compared it.
