2nd Hand Printer with paper underneath?
Hello everyone. I recived a broken 500mm ratrig 3.1 as a gift. After some lovely people in the fix my printer channel helped me get it going again i am now trying to level the bed. Upon Closer inspection there appears to be many paper shims between the PEI and the magnetic pad. After Removing the shims this is my mesh result. I will send a picture of the mesh before I removed the paper. I do not beleive this is a common practice? I assume the possibility frame isnt square and they did this as a stop cap.

With Paper Shims
Without Paper Shims
it's a "common" practice when you want to manual "level" the bed without touching the frame.
Not paper but tape.
In this case you must follow the video for fix your gantry

This was the kind of paper, craft paper. (Ignore the donkeys in the background)
just try to raise only A (left side)
and heatsoak your bed
Sorry I don’t follow
😅
before running a bed mesh warm your bed for example at 65° for about 15-30min
then make a bed mesh
ok
you must consider the metal expansion
so from my mesh i should raise the a side?
ok
will give it a go now
a little
step by step
I did do this a minuite ago but it did not appear to movwe that much.
will try again though
just follow the video
Im having no luck with raising a. Maybe I have to lower the motor size :l
it appears to have gotten worse :l 0.7 range
If you run two in a row, with no other changes, are the results consistent?
yes they are the same
i will experiement with the shims the previous user used
i managed to get the red side down via the hammer method
https://docs.ratrig.com/commissioning-guides/v-core-3-1#build-plate-preparation have you seen this?
yes
after shimming around a bit i got it down to this
the problem is the whole printer has been assembled incorrectly and there has been alot of bodges. at somepoint i will do a full rebuild
After messing around with some shims i got it to 0.215
Acceptable for a 500?? Or should I strive for more
@antmit I think I found the core of all my problems
An unused tnut?
The acrylic is raising the extrusion too high making it not square
Is it flush on the other end?
yes
Time to measure and see which one is off. Acrylic could be right and the extrusion is short
I have the delta down to 0.195mm is that ok for a 500mm bed?
i dont think im going to get any better without the full rebuild
that seems fine to me
unless you print a 500mmx500mm part (unlikely) it probably won't matter
