Quest 3 issues with beta
Starting in Quest standalone, the app intro sound completes but the logo only loads so far and flashes. Does not open.

@andybak did you try openbrush during your brief go?
yeah
not the beta though. let me try that
Yep. No issues with either the beta or 2.3 for me on Quest 3
Let me delete the app and reload. Gets stuck 3/4 on the load.
Still does not work. uninstalled on Q3, restarted, reloaded and still gets stuck. Maybe it was the Q3update?
What's Q3?
Quest 3
"uninstalled Q3" - I don't understand what you mean?
I uninstalled open brush, restarted Q3, reinstalled OB
day 1 firmware patch?
must be...I had to update as soon as I turned it on.
Its fine for Airlink....just not standalone
Just opened OB on airlink, closed it, went back to standalone and it opened, however now I get this and it makes me want to put on some Pink Floyd😁
I am facing the same problem on Quest3.
1) The title logo flashes on startup and the app does not start.
2) After repeating the start several times, it sometimes succeeds.
However, when I load the work, I get a bug in the left controller display.
Thanks both, that’s a really odd one…
I've never had an issue opening Open Brush so far. I have occasionally had glitches but mainly when doing crazy things with multimirror. I'll play some more today.
@松田 浩二 are you on the beta or standard release?
The first one I tried was probably Beta.
Then I uninstalled it once and downloaded it again from APPLab. I think this is the official release number.
(Is there any way to verify the version?)
The problem has not been resolved.
For your information, TilrBrush works fine with Quest3.
Just played around some more. Still no issues opening it (and I've done it multiple times)
However - it does seem to behave badly when performance is pushed. Loading heavy scenes or using multimirror to generate a lot of strokes causes it to lock up
the sketch is visible but it's locked to your head and the controls stop responding. I don't recall this ever happening on Quest 2.
A few of the included showcase scenes do it - so it's not just totally crazy overloading that does it. I'm going to check the complexity meter to see if it clearly correlates with that measure of complexity
This occurred on just loading the app, not loading. A Sketch. It’s a strange bug and was acting like a performance issue with stuttering on load and in game when it loaded after performing the steps above with the reinstall.
I have been thinking for some time that since OpenBrush has many versions, it would be useful to display the version number when the logo is displayed at startup.
In trying to capture mixed reality yesterday with Quest 3, I came across this strange bug where the hull brush turned into this mesh. I also saw a very strange UI issue where a teal plane shoots off into the sky. I'm going to reinstall to see if this replicates.
I would like to try the beta-version replacement, but I forgot how to install the beta version.
SideQuest?
for reference, the version number is listed at the bottom of the settings panel!
You can do it from the store page via the Oculus app on your phone (they don't allow it in the in-headset store) https://docs.openbrush.app/alternate-and-experimental-builds/open-brush-beta-docs#_lnka1z4mzei7-2
Thank You.
I want to install the standalone version, but this link is not about the PC version?
I opened the OpenBrush page in the OCULS app store on my smart phone, but I can't find the menu to select a version.
there's a small section about quest (we do need to rearrange it!) tap the version number then this screen will appear
On which screen is the version note?
oh it seems they changed layout, tap this section and it will expand to show more info
I understand.
Thank you very much.
I am still at work, so I will try each of the three versions when I get home.
Update from me: I had one incident of getting stuck at the loading screen but quit/relaunch fixed it
The issue I had with heavy scenes seems to have gone away but I am seeing weird mesh glitches for some brushes.
All a bit random. Different issues for different people at different times... 🤔
I am hoping it's all OS level bugs and we can just wait for Meta to fix them!

That trouble, apparently, turns out to be caused by the beta2.5.32 version.
Ver 2.3.0 and Ver 1.0.0 worked fine.😆 ✨ ✨

OK. So that's the current beta that is causing problems - but the official main release is fine for you.
@Zandy - is that the same for you?
I tried the official release. I activated the beta for experimental brushes for that one. Yes, still having issues.
sorry - just to be clear. do you:
1. Have problems with both beta and normal main release?
2. Only have problems with beta?
I did not try the reg release since I always have the experimental brushes activated. So yes technically beta
Sorry for any confusion
Experimental mode was merged into a single release in v2.0: https://docs.openbrush.app/release-history/2.0
Since then we've had v2.2: https://docs.openbrush.app/release-history/v2.2-settings-and-sketches
I'll get the exact build. I'm using whatever is in the oculus store
it's specifically whether you've chosen the beta or not
"LIVE" is the main release.
Previous is really really old 🙂
and Beta is.... the beta!
(need to tighten up that wording - or i need to stop calling it "main" instead of "Live" 😛 )
that's not the quest version
Yeah it gets confusing with all of the different builds and progressions TBH
hang on
2.3.0
ok. so you're on the main release. And is it still freezing on the loading screen? Or are you having glitches with meshes?
Still freezing. Only when I uninstall/reinstall it will sometimes work. Tried again today and get the stuttering issue on the logo start up and won’t go past that
The mesh issue is the same as Kevo…. The picture is at the top of the thread
Mine was not mesh just the UI Pink Floyd glitch
ok. the freezing is weird. i only had it once and can't reproduce it
ah - one idea. can you open up on the quest and read the version from the panel on the back of your brush controller?
there's a chance you are on the beta even if the web page claims you're not
I cant get to that point because it freezes. I will try the uninstall/reinstall
2.3.52 Just uninstalled and reinstalled
Started but the Pink Floyd UI bug remains
right!
so you are on the beta
current theory - the main release is fine. the beta is buggy.
i wonder why the web site is telling you're that you're on 2.3.0?
yes website said 2.3.0
But - I'm also on 2.3.52 and it's mostly working for me.
i had some glitches yesterday but i can't reproduce them now
😵💫
Its a weird bug but a big one
cant even use it
yeah. i wish we had more reports from users who don't have a problem
is it "working for 90% of people?" or is it "broken for 90% of people"?
maybe people use the link more?
most people run on the device
people who use Link are in the minority
have you done the room setup where you add your furniture?
I hardly use the quest version but really wanted to do some MR
because - i have. and it's working. but yesterday i went into the garden and didn't add any furniture. and i had glitches
it's a long shot but i'm trying to think of a pattern
if you haven't added furniture - try adding it and see if anything improves.
ok. i got a glitch!
let me see if i can reproduce it consistently
I think thats it.....space set up
floyd is gone 😄
it does seem related - but it's not 100% consistent. Going back to 2.3.0 seems solid so far
but maybe it's random and these are all just coincidences!
@mikesky - any low level sdk or graphics settings change between 2.30 and the current quest beta?
Selection shader?
that was in 2.3.41
hmmmm. this is happening with simple drawing - but we changed something about the mesh in that
although - that's hidden behind App.Config.GeometryShaderSuppported
unless that's not being set appropriately
Debug print the enum and see what it says?
aye. first i want to paint some more. this "it works on 2.3.0" could be a red herring. it's just intermittent
okay
Should be
11
on the debug for quest 3anyone on the dev discord reporting issues?
not that I can see
Did you run the redacted build on quest 3?
yeah. but not for long
i'll have the up to date enums
we use a fairly old sdk version in beta right now
i had issues when we tested together earlier
except it was a panel glitching and not a brush
but was still a mesh corruption
hrrmm
On the OCULUS page of smart phone, select the version.
A few minutes later, the version will not switch unless "update" it in the HMD's library page.
I think the difference between the version display on the phone and the display in the OpenBrush app is because it hasn't been updated.
(I am not very good at English, so can you communicate well?)
If you go from Beta to LIVE you will need to uninstall and reinstall the app yourself, the OS doesn't allow downgrading of versions
(1) Select the version in the OCULUS app on phone and execute "Launch".
(2) Wait for a while in the HMD library.
(3) When "Update" appears in the submenu in the upper right corner of the OpenBrush icon, update.
(4) Launch OpenBrush.
....... I was able to change from Beta to LIVE with this.
Trying to revert back to live and don’t see this option using the instructions above. Any guidance is appreciated, the beta on Q3 is too inconsistent to use it and still randomly get the opening screen that doesn’t load and the Floyd bug on the UI even after a fresh reinstall
for me - if I go to https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/3600360710032222/ on a computer and choose "2.3.0 (LIVE)" - then uninstalling and reinstalling OB on the headset gives me the correct version.
Thanks so much Andy! Will try again
Anyone got time to test this on the Quest 3? https://github.com/icosa-foundation/open-brush/releases/tag/2.3.49

🚀 Features
Replace geometry intersection shader on Quest 1 (PR #475 by @andybak)
Hey Andy, can try this am
It's ok. I'm on it now.
The problem I've got is how to reliably trigger the bug. I am trying to narrow down which versions are affected but today it's decided to work just fine 😠
@Zandy is it still reliably broken for you?
ah ha. i took the headset off to type this and when i put it back on i had a mesh glitch
i still don't know how to reliably trigger the glitches.
I didn’t get a chance to try yesterday but can in about an hr. I’ll let you know
Ok just tested. Its sporadic. Beta was working fine today, then uninstalled and installed the official "Live" version. That worked fine. Reinstalled the beta and got stuck on the flashing intro scene again.
Flashing intro seems to always fix itself 2nd try for me
I really need to figure out two things:
1. Does the official Live version ever have the mesh glitching?
2. Is there a 100% repeatable way to trigger the mesh glitching on the beta (or any version)
Even 90% repeatable would be fine. At the moment it just randomly starts working fine for extended periods. Which would normally be great - but not if I'm trying to test!
1. As far as I've tested Live is fine.
2. Not sure ATM for Beta Its very random
If I come across anything else will def let you know
Can anyone who is using the beta with Quest 3 try this version and report back?

It was originally a fix for the camera snapshot issues but it seems to also improve general stability issues on the Quest 3 (at least from my brief tests)
This build might also fix the snapshot issue properly and contains the Quest 3 fix above: https://github.com/icosa-foundation/open-brush/actions/runs/6669376192#artifacts

I would like to try that. But I don't know how, from this link...
1) How do I download it?
2) how to install on Quest3?
Have you used SideQuest to sideload an app before?
Yes, SideQuest is already installed and has been used in the past.
However, I have never used it for Quest3.
Sidequest should work the same for Quest 3 as it does for Quest 1 or 2.
The fix above is now in the current beta version. Usually you'd be able to install the beta from the Quest Store but we're stuck waiting on Meta to fix an issue so you need to sideload it for now. Probably the easiest place to grab it is Itch.io: https://openbrush.itch.io/openbrush ("Open Brush Beta Quest Version 2.3.91")
Thank you very much. I will try it after work.
I have successfully installed the latest beta version on Quest3 using SideQuest.
Previously it would freeze at about 75% on startup, but the latest beta started successfully.
I was baffled by the experimental brushes not showing up at first.
However, selecting "Turn to Experimental Mode On" from the settings and restarting OpenBrush , those brushes showed up.
There is a problem with the sketch loading menu.
I am not sure if the cause is "due to Quest3" or "due to the beta version", but "Delete Sketch" and "Rename" are not working.
