Red Wing 866 GOAT doing dirty stuff boot
1930s sport boot best
I wanted the mocs to fit me so bad, but even in EE the last is too narrow.
I've got a pair of their metarsals for for work
they aight ig as a work boot but pretty pricey
I'm currently considering getting a pair of blacksmiths or iron rangers as my first nice boots
Both are good first boots. I highly suggest getting your brannock measurement first, but not a Red Wing store, they’re notorious for incorrect sizing. Most Red Wing lasts are half down.
Yeah I will need to see where to get them. I'm also in Germany so that changes things a bit.
One reason I landed on redwings is that they seem to be the only brand in this area that I could find in offline stores
Skip the IRs imo most other models are better
Mocs are the model to get in my opinion
i have a couple of pairs of IRs and a pair of Blacksmiths (as well as a Weekender Chukka in their 'roughneck' leather) - I'm a fan hah
i think i'd probably opt for the Blacksmiths if I had to choose, I find that the shape tends to be a bit more versatile. Both good options for boots though!
I’m interested to see what models they introduce or reintroduce this fall and the next year. They really pared back the line due to covid supply chains and the cyber hack.
Would be cool if they brought the flatbox Beckman to the us market. Probs the only boot of RWs that I’d buy
I've recently been down a black boot rabbit hole and ended up at the flatbox Beckmans as well, is there anything else similar or do I have to search for them when I head to Japan later in the year?
You can look for almost any unstructured toe service boot. It’s not common, but that’s the general style
Cheers, I'll see what I can find when I get the chance
I saw on the Red Wing subreddit a poster claiming to be an employee saying the flat box is coming back and to the US in the future. Maybe this fall?
There are a lot of other service boots with unstructured toes but I think the flat box Beckmans are the best
Beckman Oxfords also look nice
It hurts me that they call those an Oxford
Not a single US maker gets it right

Why the Hell Do All These Workboot Makers Call Their Derbies “Oxfor...
What’s an oxford when it’s absolutely, definitely not an oxford…but is still, somehow, called an oxford? It’s difficult to fathom how one one of the most common shoe terms became one of the most surprisingly contentious shoe terms. Because we all know what an oxford is, right? Well, just in case, let’s break it down
Yeah I was debating on which term I should use product or what they actually are. Although personally I have not figured out the difference between bluchers and derbies
The Brits get it wrong as well
Tho this distinction is pretty much entirely pedantic. In the US not really any maker gets it right and the terms are incredibly muddied.
I only care bc I don’t like most derbies and prefer bluchers
These are sweet
Yeah I think I prefer the Blucher style but the terms are kinda hard to use because the shoe makers also seem to get them wrong
I def. need to get myself a pair of dark brown bluchers/derbies at some point or something simmilar
Regardless of what they technically are, these look awesome
Wow I just read about the cyber attack, that's wild!
Just tried on a pair and they were pretty snug
How do you all feel about the roughnecks?
I had those way back in the day
Im not the biggest fan of the leather
Probably going to go for Blacksmiths at some point they seem like they would work with more different outfits
I love my Blacksmiths - i wear them more than my IRs for that reason tbh, they seem to go with a lot
yeah i love my blacksmiths too, i have the teacore so the fact they're kinda both black and brown rules
Another happy blacksmith owner here
Same, bought a pair of Blacksmiths a couple of years ago and they're fantastic, I wear them all the time.
The way those age is pretty cool
Thanks for telling me of your expiriences
Think I'm probably going to go for blacksmiths in either copper rough and tough or briar oil slick
I had a lot of redwings during my early fashion days. Parted with most of them but I still wear these moc toe "oxfords" quite often
Redwing just calls everything that isnt a boot an oxford lmao
I think calling everything an oxford is quiet common for some reason

TLDR no good reason at all really
Maybe the term is just more marketable
I'm guessing this is it, I know several people who would call these shoes oxfords and would have no idea what a derby is. That's here in the Midwest though. 🤷🏻♂️
who here has the williston 6 inch boots? there's something with the design that's causing my soles to hurt wearing it
I'm kinda torn between these two leathers
I’m no expert and I consider myself a newb, but I’d pick the lighter shade if my wardrobe leans towards rugged and casual. And darker if my wardrobe leans towards the opposite. I’s pick the darker one regardless tho cos I’m biased towards burgundy/oxblood
My Red Wing 8172. Sold only in Japan back in 1986. Did not become as popular as the crepe-soled RW 8165. Managed to find this in a thrift store chain for 135usd. These typically go for 330usd in the used market so the person who appraised mine screwed up, lol.
These pair are so old the vibram on the left peeled away. I asked my cobbler friend to glue it back together and he said the soles alone cost at least 100usd. I am smug and happy. Although my spirit was crushed when my other non-fashion oriented friends said these were good looking Doc Martens 🫠😭
hard to go wrong here
how come gluing is that expensive? is it falling off? i don’t imagine it would be $100 especially for 1 sole
ah, woops, i meant the sole as a material costs 100usd
the gluing job was practically free since theyre my friends
ohhhh that makes a lot more sense! $100 sounds fair
yup but still crazy to my small brain. that 100usd is basically a good pair of sneakers/shoes
the way i rationalize it is that the $100 is added to your initial $135 cost so your net cost is $235 which is still big savings from what you would have gotten from a whole pair on the used market
u r right on that.
Probably why I'm struggeling to decide. Probably going to buy them from Cultzim I can try them on there
Any Brits who’ve had theirs resoled in the uk? Looking to resole a pair of mocs and IRs, there’s a guy in Leeds who will do both for £180. Seems like a good deal but haven’t actually tried a local cobbler
My local cobbler did my mocs for £85 a couple years back so that seems like a fairly decent deal.
yeah, seems cheaper than the cobbler that Red Wing London recommends/links to
Is that the Canton one by any chance? I’ve had a few people recommend them
Yep.
Any rumors of new models being released next year?
This might not be completely on topic, but I went to a redwing store and they scanned my feet with this thing from a swedish company called my volumental to make a model. Does anyone have experience with this type of fancy measurement device?
Maybe I'm a bit of a fashion hypochondriac but are these sort of creases normal. Haven't worn them often yet
Yep, normal
Yeah this looks normal to me.
thank you
Crispy Rose Abilene coming Feb 14
Not my favorite but I’m glad to see they are releasing new boots again
I NEED them to rerelease the red supersole boots with the padded collar
Berkeley Supply
Red wing heritage - 8133 SUPERSOLE 6" MOC - Factory Second - E Width
leather black "chrome" sole super sole Manufacturing method super sole welt Made in USA
Cant say enough good things about this boot
I was so close to buying that boot last year lol
just hesitated because red wing sizing has been weird for me
damn they dropped the price, it was $225 in December
Im wearing my 5+ year old pair today
those are gorgeous
you're tempting me to get a pair ... 😭
I love my pair
It has this super thick cushioned insole that makes break in super easy
Good to hear, I know full leather insoles take their sweet time to get comfortable
Did they release this version in the US before? I assumed it was Japan exclusive always
Although I have heard about some appearing at Nordstrom Racks a few years ago
Ive only ever seen them pop up in the us as factory seconds
In fact mine are seconds
Can I ask you how sizing is on that pair
They fit about the same as other moc toe boots
So take a whole size down from your brannock size
Ty!
Man those look nice. I dislike the white of the standard mocs but without that they are great looking shoes
I know they aren’t for everyone but red wing is bringing back the moc toe Oxford. I hated them in 2015/2016 and then they slowly grew on me but were discontinued. Definitely not the most versatile footwear but I like them.
I think its funny and kind of tragic that red wing ascended at the same time as hyper skinny fitting jeans
Ive been hoping theyd have another moment now that relaxed/ baggy fits are more fashionable
yeah haha
As I've started wearing straighter/looser stuff, I've started to like the silhouette of my IR's more
I have a pair and I really like them
The only thing I held onto from my raw denim and flannel era :xd:
That’s interesting, what do you wear with them now?
Really love the look of these 9030s hope they bring them back
Red Wing confirmed VP-nom approved
Makes sense they are from the same state right?
Absolutely
What style boot are you wearing in the fit pics?
Blacksmiths.
Thank you - how is the sizing on them?
Consistent with most boots for me. One size down from sneakers.
The new Beckmans look really nice. It's just a pity they are so expensive though
Ohhh these do look nice.
But yeah, £400 😥
I especially like the cigar one
