Installed RatOS but can't flash the Octopus

Hello guys. I'm building a Ratrig V-core 3.1 (500mm) and I've flased my raspberry Pi with RatOS. I can't find a way to flash firmware on my Octopus V1.1 board though because I know how to do it and after reading a lot of stuff regarding this online, I'm still stuck at the same point. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the response. I've read it several times since yesterday but no use. It asks to complete the wizard but I don't see any installation wizard

Did you setup your wifi connection? If so then you go to http://ratos.local/configure?step=1

Yes I did and the screen that you see in my last message appears when I access the Pi through browser The link you just shared however just says "the site can't be reached"

try rebooting your pi. otherwise something is wrong with the PI image (maybe your SD card is failing)

I've used USB drive on Pi to flash the image. Could that be a problem?
blacksmithforlife
not sure what you mean by that. https://os.ratrig.com/docs/installation/#raspberry-pi-installation says to burn to a micro SD card and use that

I used Balena etcher as directed in that guide to write an image of the RatOS on a USB stick instead of SD card and flashed that on Pi. Would that be something that's causing the trouble? Also, can't I manually flash the Octopus board with klipper directly somehow?
blacksmithforlife
@miklschmidt any idea if that would cause a problem for the configurator? you can, but RatOS assumes certain things and if you flash it manually it will break all those assumptions. You need the configurator to build the firmware so that the octopus connects in the right location and will work with the autoflashing of RatOS

I bought an SD card just now from a local store and downloaded the RatOS again. Will make image on this card and flash the pi again Hope I don't need to tweak anything before flashing the new OS except for removing the USB stick. Finally able to reach the configurator. It's compiling firmware which I'll flash using another SD card on my octopus board. Only thing is, it didn't ask for any specifications on size and hardware for the printer. Not sure if it'll work as intended.

You configure that in printer.cfg later. Stick to the instructions and you’ll be fine 🙂

Thanks for the response. The only thing is everytime I click on "download firmware", it gets nowhere and the page displays that site can't be reached. Is there a way to directly install the firmware on the board via USB A to C cable connecting the Pi and the octopus boards? I try to stick to the instructions but apparently I'm not well versed in the software stuff, so even common terminology of this area is confusing

what raspberry pi version are you using?

4B 4gb ram version

can you take a video of what is happening?

Sure, just a moment It downloaded this time So , now I have placed the SD card into the board and powered it. How long do we wait till we know the firmware is flashed? I'm sorry I'm asking too many questions, but I honestly appreciate all the help I'm getting Figured it'd show .cur file in the sd card if the firmware is successfully flashed and it seems like it worked. Now do we just connect the two boards via USB A to C?
blacksmithforlife
continue in the configurator and then follow the next steps in the ratos documentation

It doesn't say anything about how to connect the two boards. Do we just connect them as I asked in previous message?
blacksmithforlife
yes you need to connect them via USB

Awesome, thank you

That sounds strange, use the manual dfu mode instead, it's much more reliable anyway (requires you update RatOS through mainsail, but if you followed the guide you should've already done that) Nevermind, i need to read the rest of the conversation before answering.. You'd think i'd learned by now lol.

Appreciate all the help good sir. Almost done with wiring. Will work on printer.cfg afterwards. I may bug you guys again, but prolly not. Cheers
