I've never come across one in the wild. Aren't they just jpegs with a different file extension? Does renaming work? If not can you post one?
Hey Andy renaming will work but it’s a new format that seems like it’s becoming common. Windows is using it and seeing it on Apple as well. Since OB already takes Jpegs and pngs I thought I’d add this as a request.
this format is from 1991 😅
Yeah - I googled and a few people were saying it was "becoming common" - which seems weird.
However I think it's just another file extension for regular jpegs (or rather - it's a subset of jpeg)
so we can easily add it. I just would like an example file from "in the wild" to test on
Yeah reference photos are the biggies on pc. Jiff is popping up on more than half of the photos
careful on that 'easily' - aren't photos currently processed by Unity's image library?
Weird I've never come across one. How are people making them?
anyway. send me one
Idk just happens on a save as with reference photos. Will do
just happens on a save as with reference photos.save? save from what?
The internet. Images Creative Commons etc
Yeah I've never seen/heard of one either
you mean "saved from a web browser"? Which website. Do you have a url?
(and which browser?)
google. search/chrome
general search images
ohh okay this is incredibly dumb. a jfif IS a jpeg. it's just one of the ways of storing the data (the other one being exif). I've got no idea why chrome is downloading with that extension, but it shouldn't be, there's no point!
That's what I meant by "subset"
i think all valid jfifs are also valid jpegs
This is the reason behind it that I found but Im running windows 11
Yep, correct
so - just rename them?
windows just had an update and I just checked andits less frequent
yeah could....but it was happening a lot....wasnt sure why
(the day Windows decided to hide file extensions by default was a dark, dark day... 😦 )
go to explorer settings and turn on "show file extensions" and your life will magically become easier
guess it wouldn't be a big deal to scrape the request but again wasnt sure if something was a new format....kind of like the apple photo file extensions are not jpg anymore (HEIC)
