Octopus V1.1 was not detected
Hey,
im setting up the software side of my vcore3.1, and for some reason Klipper dosent work. Im following the online RATOS setup guide, and it dosent find my control board. Its all correctly wired, and the wifi works fine, i can acces Moonraker, but idk whats wrong with the control board. I downloaded the Klipper log, maybe someone else, who knows what their are doing, can help me.
Thanks

where do i get the firmware from? where can i download it from the internet
That big green button that says "compile firmware" needs to be pressed first. Then it will change to "download firmware"
yes. ive downloaded that firmware 100 times, but why do i have to download a firmware from the printer, to use on my printer? What if this firmware is somehow "broken" and im just using wrong firmware
I see you opened another post in #ratos-support . Let's just work on it here instead of opening multiple posts as it gets people confused
okay, yea i havent seen that other support thing earlier sorry
you need to download it because each board's firmware is different (different CPU, different pins, etc). RatOS also makes your life easier with auto flashing, so it needs to set the connection name to know how to communicate with the board when flashing a new version of klipper
after you downloaded it, did you write it to a SD card and flash your board like the configurator tells you?
yes
and did the file on the SD card change to firmware.CUR?
nope
then it didn't flash. How long did you leave the SD in there? How did you format the SD card? What size is the SD card?
i formated it in windows with fat32, its a 4GB sandisk card, and i left it there for about 20 min
What size cluster did you use when formatting to fat32? What is plugged into the octopus board while flashing?
try 8 or 4k
Additionally, it should be formatted with either FAT16 (sometimes just called FAT), or FAT32 with a cluster size of 8kb or 4kbfrom https://os.ratrig.com/docs/installation
okay
remove the jumpers to the pi as well
okay, ive done that, ill flash it now
after flashing is successful you will need to connect the USB A on PI to USB C on octopus
how do i know that its flashed correctly?
you take the SD card, put it in your PC and the filename should have changed to FIRMWARE.CUR
okay
nope, did not change
unplug the drivers and disconnect the wiring except for the power in.
okay
it will take a minute, thanks for that help btw
now only the bottom red led is light up
nope, didnt work. which position should the middle jumper be in?
middle jumper?
i read online that it has something to do with usb power or something like that
yeah that should be removed
okay
Looks like you didn't remove the jumpers as per the wiring diagram
https://os.ratrig.com/docs/boards/btt/octopus-11#wiring
ill make another run with it removed, although it was removed for most of my tries
which jumpers should be removed?
the green ones, or everyone exept the green ones
ALL of them except the green ones
okay
did not work
try a different SD card
whats the max size=
?
is 256gb okay?
ideally as small as you can. I used an old 256 Megabyte
lol, okay, ill search a small one

- sry my discord didn‘t load all messages here ^^
the blue sd card led dosent light up btw
2gb dindt work either
just to verify my procces:
unplug power, and wait for all leds to turn off
plug in sdcard with firmware.bin
connect power
wait 30sec
Pull sdcard out and plug in my pc, to see if something changed

As you have hooked up the PSU to the Octopus board, why don‘t you use the reset button instead?
i didnt know that you can do that lol

I just did it two days ago for the first time exactly as in the instruction and it worked 😬
you can‘t do it if the RPI powers the Octopus but in your case the Octopus is directly powered ..
no, 30 sec is not long enough. give it like 5 minutes
okay, ill give it 5 min
the reset button is the one next to the sd card slot, isnt it=
?
didnt work, ill try another sd card
dosent work
while the sd card was plugged in, the blue led didnt light up, is that normal?
maybe my board is broken... this is just so frustrating. The whole software side sucked so far
Maybe it is stuck in DFU mode since you previously had the DFU jumper set. You will have to connect it to the pi via USB to tell.
okay, ill try that out tomorrow. its 11pm here, thanks for your help so far
how to i know that the board is in DFU mode?
you will need to connect the octopus USB C to the PI's USB A. Then SSH into the PI and run
lsusb
. Paste the output heresorry for the late answer. when trying to ssh into the pi it asks for a password. i tried raspberry but it didnt work. did i have to set one at some point or is it somewhere in the docs?
vicious-gold•2y ago
make sure when you enter the username there is no capitall letters, same for the password
pi
raspberry
i was trying to use ratos and raspberry, sorry im stupid. thanks though
pi@ratos:~ $ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
pi@ratos:~ $
then it isn't even connecting via the USB. Try a different USB cord
I tried 3 known good usb cables, and always the same, is my board broken? There was never smoke or something, the pcb looks good.
can't say for sure, but probably should contact where you bought it from and ask for a refund or replacement
okay, thanks A TON for your help. I ordered it with my RatRig kit, so I'll contact them.
also thanks to maxmueller 😄
