RPi zero 2 w - octopus 1. 1. GPIO
Hello, I planned on having the zero connected via gpio pinout. Zero powers on when I turn on the printer but when I'm I want to flash the board (http://RatOS.local/configure?step=1), ratos does not detect it.
Question: can the installation be done via gpio or is USB needed?
Q2: if yes, what could cause the problem? Assume the zero is connected correctly (5v,gnd,rx,tx). Any jumpers that should be removed or something like that?
Many thanks in advance!

Ratos expects connection via USB
with UART you need to flash your board manually
Many thanks
I want to suggest to add "via USB" in the ratos install guide but I guess since it did not cause trouble until now....

@miklschmidt i tihnk this info should be more visible, atm its only in the spider doc
I agree! I'd expect it somewhere here
i would like to see a dedicated rasperry connection guide page
BIGTREETECH Octopus Pro STM32F429 | RatOS
This board is currently not recommended, as it cannot be flashed automatically through USB, that means all firmware updates have to be done by manually moving an SD card back and forth. It is recommended to get the Octopus Pro 446 instead. RatOS compiles the firmware binary for you each time klipper is updated (while the Octopus Pro 429 is conne...
It's everywhere
ahh, i was searching for the same title bc i was sure you love consistency, but i guess i was wrong 😛
spider is a user contribution
And it's all over the place
ok ok
the rest of them are consistent
Spider is full of weird quirks
damn, even the spider doc sucks, not only the board 😂
Yeah i'm not particularly fond of fysetc hardware in general

Ferfi were you able to flash your mother board properly?
@ferfi4004
yes and no, I did not try the GPIO anymore but I'm told it can be done if you change the communication settings in both RPi and firmware.
What I did: I connected via USB C and powered RPi from wall. The auto flash did not work so I built the firmware and flashed the board by SD card.
You have to flash via SD card the first time. After that the automatic flashing will work
I see so I guess everything went as it should.
btw am I incapable of reading or is that not mentioned? That you have to flash manually the first time 😄
the configurator should have had directions on putting the firmware on the SD and flashing. Also ratos documentation mentions it

Ok, sounds like you can not communicate pi to board. Wait one. Will send link for manual flashing.

This still works after any and all updates you may have made to your RatOS2. This will get you talking to your board, but don’t use all the configuration adjustments. RatRig will be different. I’m still a new person trying to figure specific configurations out, and I haven’t found a YouTube on the new RatOS2 setup. Wizard doesn’t work 100% for everyone. @ferfi4004
yees, that is correct. It worked as intended - said can not detect motherboard, flash manually. And that's what I did. But contextually it felt as if the autoflash failed.
I flashed KP3S using kiauh before so I am familiar with that. But thank you, still handy link for when and if I want to tidy it up and go with USART 🙂

Ok, you are good?
All in all I stumbled through the setup a bit but everything works at the moment (y)
thanks for all the help 🙂

😀
we'll see if I have this smile when I actually try tuning the printer lol
Yes it does, unless you want to use unsupported hardware or do things that are not recommended.
