Is it possible to have a smooth tool
Is it possible to have a smooth tool apply to brushes (esp lit ones) Often times you have to layer to get a smooth effect with them. If I change the brushes from lit to unlit to hide holes etc it tends to look washed out.

Is this smoothing the positions of points? Just making sure I understand what you're asking for.
That may be the way to do it not sure. Ex. If you have a ton of short paint strokes with a lit brush is there a way to make it look seamless between the strokes. Maybe by joining vertices from one to another so the shadows don’t affect color giving it a bumpy effect? Maybe a simpler way would be like the drop down in photoshop? Where you can put one layer over another and use blend type options?
All the same sketch. Lit, unlit, lit done up with affinity photo
So - are the dark patches on the first image all from shadows?
The dimply look in the skin is accentuated with shadows
But lit brushes are much more defined without painting shadows.
hmmm. if you paint in a similar style but using a guide, do the shadows still appear?
Not as much. It’s because of the gaps between strokes.
Unlit will always have chunky bits when you look at an angle and they are hidden because of the brush type
unlit has no shading at all so shadows or light angle won't be an issue
You can get much smoother lines when you can see the angles in 3d
i'm trying to think what kind of "smoothing" would fix this. send me a sample sketch so I can look at the strokes in more detail.
I think it's a combination of a) shadows and b) the curve of the strokes. But I'd like to see closer
Will send one later today
If I had to guess - it's more (b) than (a). Shadows would be more pixellated.
And wouldn't affect the front strokes at all
It does ease a bit when you adjust the lighting
Although some people may want the option for this look too
in which case - some kind of averaging of the positions of the control points might help
(or averaging of the angles of the control points)
