is it wrong to call myself a software engineer if i didn't go to college
the story goes that back in the 19-smths most in the field were called programmers, and most programmers were women. in order to make the field more "reputable", it was renamed to software engineering, which is also a big reason why software engineering is mostly men

going with "full stack software engineer" tends to have a better impression than "web developer", even though they're fundamentally the same thing
