is it wrong to call myself a software engineer if i didn't go to college

I saw some hot takes on how bad it was to call yourself a "software engineer" when you're just a "developer" (it was a long time ago, so I don't remember the entire argument, but now I have that idea in my head). are there differences between a developer and an engineer?

going with "full stack software engineer" tends to have a better impression than "web developer", even though they're fundamentally the same thing the story goes that back in the 19-smths most in the field were called programmers, and most programmers were women. in order to make the field more "reputable", it was renamed to software engineering, which is also a big reason why software engineering is mostly men

Dont let others tell you what you are and what you are not. If you fit the definition of a software engineer/developer whatever(you can contribute to making sofware) then you are one, even if you did a degree or not. I am a self taught software engineer as well and I am telling you that you are one. Ignore the naysayers. :deranged:
