Seneca Graduates give freshman advice
What’s going on, I wanted to create this thread to give Freshman advice on going into Seneca for comp sci. Especially because there isn’t any tips and tricks for study technical classes online. PLEASE ADD ADVICE YOU HAVE THANKS
1. Study to understand not to memorize
2. Use a second brain, your brain isn’t for remembering short term stuff like deadlines and exam dates. App of the Year 2022: Notion offers a free student plan with unlimited version history so you never accidentally delete course material.
3. Pomo do Technique, trust me it works. After 5 hours of this I feel refreshed and not tired.
4. LinkedIn Learning, (Free with linking to Seneca email) there’s a super course on each class you take. And better quality so you can understand better.
5. Upgrading Assignments, in your third or fourth semester. When you complete difficult assignment, make sure to spend some time after the semester to upgrade the assignments to be more unique than other students. Upgraded UI, API, algorithm or use case. This will allow you to stand out on your resume.
BONUS 1. Write your Resume bullets before you do an assignment then change them after. Our brains perceive tasks as easier after completing a task so end up doubting our speech, and before assignments that anxiety about difficulty allows you to build resume bullets that are impressive.
BONUS 2. ChatGPT, it’s 2023, use chatgpt to UNDERSTAND and solve problems in your code. understand why problems are occurring instead of copy and pasting. That way you actually learn something. chatgpt won’t be around forever. It will likely get integrated into something else or get regulated away. while
It’s here use it effectively. And
I’ve written a more in-depth article on linked in that I would recommend you read. Link with me
