How Do I Secure a Server
My brother has a server on which he runs several websites and told me that if I can demonstrate to him that it won't pose a security risk, we can talk about him hosting a server for me. I've only ever hosted LAN before, and know next to nothing about network security.
He wants to know:
Will it be publicly accessible? If not, how will you give people access?I plan to put up a whitelist and only give the connection info to people I know and trust, but I'm not sure that's what he's asking.
Will it make the servers a target for any kind of denial of service attack or retaliation?Would anyone be able to help me answer these questions, or point me to somewhere I could find information to learn more? Thanks

Enable PVP for some players
In a multiplayer survival server, we'd like to have PVP off unless two players decide to fight.
Is there some (Forge) mod or plugin that can set players to PVP on at will, or is the best way to have an admin spawn a few command blocks, set all players on a no friendly-fire team, and make the command block set the player who hit it to a different team (in adventure mode, so he can't escape the arena)?

Getting suggestions for a good server host
Hi all,
I'm looking to host a very lightly modded Java server (things like botany pots, falling trees, nothing that adds a ton of mechanisms or blocks/mobs) for 7-12 people, all on the east coast.
Can I get some suggestions of hosts that are good value for money for that?
Also, how much RAM will I need? Based on various calculators on hosting sites it looks like 2, would 3 be overkill?
