addSelect is not working on $table->query()

I'm trying to select a custom column in my query, but ->addSelect on the query broke the table. Is there other option to select a custom column?

Switching a relation managers loads the whole page again, is this expected behaviour?

We are trying to improve the performance of our app when switching between relation managers. We have badges with counts in the menu items, these queries also runs when we switch a relation manager. Also the widget queries runs again. Is this expected behaviour?
