yup, you can even move the game directory to other location so that steam cant touch it
like this :
C:\Users\OneDrive\Desktop\Fact\Update8

if you had the old mods before update, it will still work on u8, i have 72 mods active in u8

1. Never launch downgraded in Steam
2. If you did everything correct, it should not show update unless you already restarted/shutdown your pc
3. Try again, no other way. Download depot, except the 3 manifest IN depot, copy everything TO satisfactory director
Just tried now, I open simultaneously U1.0 and U8, works okay

120 hrs in, 73 mods, some crashes here and there(moving too fast and opening MaM)
they realeased just today 1.0 mod manager, mods are getting updated, just wait

It means something wrong must happened, like copying the depot to directory

but when I try to start the game via SMM or normally, Steamyou sure you followed the steps, "one by one"? i cant remember that theres instruction to lunch in it SMM or Steam

thats the dual install
I mean did you overwrite/deleted the 1.0 file? or did you move it
if deleted, you can just redownload it
but before that move your update 8 satisfactory to another folder. Take note, moving this, means you cannot open it again in SMM
If you moved it, same as above but before you put it back

after installing the mods you want
change the exe file to FactoryGameSteam.exe
it wont run, if its FactoryGame.exe
