I'm not using Aternos for reference but it seemed that it could work for me since r/admincraft was down:
"There's a "view range" option in https://aternos.org/files/server.properties
I recommend setting that value, which btw doesn't require you to have Paper to change it, to 6, and instead to go into paper.yml and set the no-tick-render-distance to your desired value. This will give you better performance with better view range"
