I did the exact same thing, which is hilarious considering that there is no alsa-base.conf that exists there.

To quote:
SOLVED! no sound Asus ROG Strix Scar G512L So I fixed it by adding "options snd-hda-intel model=alc294-lenovo-mic" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and rebooting!
