What can Universal Blue offer in the way of easy to navigate commercial solutions with an OS?
and i think that the key is that the ISO doesn’t package the codecs and they have to be downloaded manually but only after the user opts in. Would have to dig in deep to any license agreements to figure out how they can get away with that.

this is not legal advice, and i seriously doubt anyone here would offer any, you’re better off hiring a lawyer to counsel you properly. I want to point out that Ubuntu is offered by some vendors as an OEM. Ubuntu as part of its first time setup prompts the user if they wish to obtain third party software and codecs. I am not sure if this includes downloading h.264, it might. Ubuntu is owned by canonical, an enterprise similar to Redhat. They may be paying a license to be able to distribute codecs legally, or they may just have an agreement. For Redhat, they have epel repository for proprietary third party software. The same may apply here. You could just look into distributing your machines with Fedora-Silverblue, or customizing it to include additional software that can help endusers rebase to bazzite. Again, the legality of this is unclear to me, this is not legal advice, go talk to a lawyer.

Gamescope HDR regression bug in latest Bazzite
this bug is somewhat present in 41.20241104 as well, but it is not as bad. Switching from gamemode with HDR on to Desktop with HDR on, and then back to gamemode it comes back up in SDR mode. Going into the display settings i have to toggle HDR off and on this bug isn’t that bad, but leaving this here in case anyone finds this annoying on bazzite-deck staying on 41.20241104 for a while since it boots to HDR mode just fine

Systemd SMB Mount and Automount leading to incorrect sha256sums on some files.
if this is the case, i am suspecting the system hosting the NFS server is performing some sort of compression then if you rsync the file back, does the original hash get recomputed?

Systemd SMB Mount and Automount leading to incorrect sha256sums on some files.
let me ask you this question, for the both systems that are running bazzite, are they both automounting the same NFS network drive? have you check the drive health on the NFS server? I personally am using NFS server off a rocky linux as well as a synology running both SMB and NFS for other backups, never had an issue but I also only tend to use rsync -a for all file copy operations. I do not trust regular cp or even dolphin/nautilus to handle large file copying, rsync is fault tolerant and has built-in mechanisms to ensure data integrity is intact. Do the hashes change when you copy the files in? Do the hashes change randomly while the files are in storage? Have you checked to make sure the NFS server is not performing any type of compression on the drives where data is hosted? Is the data with the questionable hashes backed up anywhere else where you can check hashes against?

GPU Help. AMD and Nvidia in the same pc
yep, i totally forgot that normally you'd want dkms or similar since nvidia driver is an out-of-tree kernel module, you can't overlay that on these distros i don't think, you'd need the image to have the kmod already built in

GPU Help. AMD and Nvidia in the same pc
oh wait... i am forgetting something important regarding nvidia drivers... it might not be as simple as installing rpms actually, i don't think we can dynamically load kernel modules like we can on regular fedora / other linux distros due to rpm-ostree

GPU Help. AMD and Nvidia in the same pc
i think its possible so as long as you use your AMD GPU as the primary graphics for driving gamemode, you can offload the game rendering to nvidia using prime-run: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME There was a youtube video floating around where this guy pulls off just that, hogwarts legacy being rendered on an nvidia desktop GPU using prime-run, but his primary AMD GPU (in his case i think he was using the iGPU on the CPU) is what was pushing the frames to the screen. There was a bit of overhead, but was totally doable. I will see if i can find it. This guy if i remember right was on arch. To get this to work on bazzite i think you may have to overlay rpm packages yourself, especially the nvidia drivers, if you plan on using the regular bazzite or bazzite-deck images, as well as a ton of experimentation, i doubt this would ever be officially supported by the devs here, or even recommended.

can you go to settings > display, and select to manually set display resolution. Do you see an option for 3840 x 2160 @ 60 in the drop down? Also make sure your TV is set to some sort of a "gamemode" setting, most modern TVs have this, and will not let you have low latency high fps without it
