well, I would say login, unplug your HDR monitor and see how it goes

I had this happen earlier to me. Quick question, are you using HDR on Wayland? If so, that might be the problem, I had to disable HDR on my main monitor in order to use Wayland.
You're actually logged in when you hear the chime, if you have an non-HDR monitor, you can have that plugged in; unplug the HDR monitor and it should allow you to actually see your desktop.
If you have HDR enabled on all your monitors, you might have to somehow adjust your display settings on X11 for your Wayland session. Don't ask me how, I don't know sorry. Worst case you might have to rollback or rebase.
