once you lock in more, you'll probably feel safer spending a bit more for clothes created with more thought and ethical practices, and that will likely last longer for the money.

uniqlo is a brand that many people still wear plenty in here. you may get some adverse reactions because many people in here strongly dislike the ethical implications of fast fashion, but I think experimentation is the perfect time to be buying from brands like them

you've done the hard part at this point, so kudos on that. I think going slow is definitely the way to go, buying one item at a time, particularly if they are on the more expensive end.
I'd also really recommend starting with more budget options if you can, since it sounds like this is still pretty early for you, you probably aren't gonna bat 100 on things you actually end up liking wearing. better to minimize costs while you're still experimenting, so whiffs don't hurt as bad. thrifting and used marketplaces are good ways to do that, and you can usually find some more budget options or hunt for sales on items bought new.

definitely follow zeo's advice and take a look at what inspo and fits speak to you, and see what strikes you, even if it's a little more formal than you're used to

Wardrobe upgrade suggestions - Pants and Jackets
honestly, to some extent, it might just be worth breaching out of your comfort zone a bit and risk getting called spiffy every once in a while. as long as you like how you dress, that's the most important metric IMO.

I think you've got the right approach, where if the goal is to keep fitting in at work, you're gonna want to base those ideas on what people are already wearing at your workplace, because "work appropriate attire" varies so extremely on industry and individual office (I get called "spiffy" for wearing a button down at mine haha). And then from there, launching into thinking of ways you can stay grounded in that but play around with some alternatives

What kinds of jackets are there?
3 days late sorry but honestly restarting this thread with some specific examples of jackets that you don't know the name of but dig the look of might get you better response.
but wanted to throw some words out there anyway for you to google (not necessarily types but definitely relevant things to know):
- chore coat (pockets on the front but usually the slimmer kind, often made of heavy cotton or denim, kinda a step up from an overshirt)
- field jacket (beeeeeg chunky pockets, milsurpey like fatigues)
- leather (obv)
- jean jacket (obv)
- sherpa jacket (got the fuzzy lining on the inside, which usually pops through in the collar as well)
- barbour jacket (I'm pretty sure this is a brand? but I associate this with a really distinctive contrast collar and some big pockets on the front)
- puffer jacket (usually some interesting wavy patterns on the outside, filled with down so it'll run warm, leans a little tech-ey just from the texture of the material IMO)
could also think about something like a mac coat, which is longer but thinner and lands kinda in jacket territory for me because of that
also remember if you see someone with a sick jacket on in waywt just pop in and they may be able to give you the words you need.

This is always going to depend heavily on the industry. In tech I almost feel like showing up to an interview even semi formal might act as a detriment if anything.

Also I wish the article explored a bit more the kinda psychological difference between custom clothes made by a friend or etc vs mass produced clothes
