Spier & Mackay suit fit check

Hey all. Wanted to get a fit check on this S&M suit I just bought. Had bought 42R initially but returned it for the below 40R. I apologize for the bad lighting. My shirt sleeves are also a little short, so please disregard that for considering the jacket sleeves length. Also, does anyone else find suit shopping extremely stressful? I feel like I have an okayish budget of ~$700, but whenever I look up how a suit should fit, the expectations seem so high that I feel only a full bespoke could meet. Or maybe I just have an odd body type. Last time when I posted a suit check to style forum, some guy just started telling me to gain muscle (WTF!). Sorry for the tangent. Would appreciate any advice, thank you!

Well, keep in mind that the standards seem high cause you’re seeking out the opinions of people that nerd out about this stuff and thus have high standards.
Also, off the rack stuff trends slim right now, from what I gather? Seems like everyone says the big suit brands (suit supply, S&M) run small 🤷 I’m no expert either!

Too short by lots and lots. Also the sleeves on the shirt are like 3 inches too short as well This suit doesn’t fit him no matter how you slice it and suits are not trending slim rn. They haven’t for like 5 years

Do you have pics of the 42R? This seems pretty snug, but not terrible. Can you comfortably move around? Hug someone? Raise your foot up onto a chair? If it’s constricting I’d size up. Though you’ll definitely, definitely need a longer jacket, as beans said.

Thank you! Will return this. For my reference, is it the sleeves of the suit that are too short? The body I believe covers my butt / reaches the middle of my palm which I thought was ok. But maybe I’m wrong about it, so happy to learn! Thank you. The jacket didn’t feel snug actually. I thought the weird wrinkling at the back was because it was too big lol. Shows how much I’ve to learn about suit fit.

It’s definitely too short in the body. I’m not convinced it fully covers your butt tbh and generally you want it to hit the end of the first knuckle, not mid-palm

Thanks! Definitely doesn’t hit the first knuckle, you’re right

Looks better but honestly it’s so short it’s hard to say anything meaningful

Thanks again! Do you think a 42L from S&M would be worth trying? I don’t know if it’s the lightweight fabric, or my shoulder measurements (or just needs ironing/steamjng) but both of them have weird wrinkling at the back. Do you think S&M cut just isn’t for me?

I’d check the measurements. That jacket is short by like at least an inch. The wrinkling in the back I think is your shoulder slope and arm pitch but I’m not an expert. For $700 you might be able to find something at suit supply? I don’t know their price ranges off the top of my head
