shader/lighting issue?
Hey!
I’ve been having an issue with Distant Horizons when using shaders. It seems like my shaders kind of cut off past a certain chunk distance. I’ve tried multiple shaders that are known to be compatible, but the effect is the same. Compared to screenshots from others, my world looks different—almost like the shader effects (like lighting, shadows, etc.) stop being applied after a certain point in the distance.
Is this normal behavior or is there something I might’ve misconfigured? Any help would be appreciated 🙂

it looks completely normal to me...
do you mean the level of detail or
yeah i do, im sorry for the confusion but i tried looking at the settings for it and i don't know how to raise that? the shaders arent loading towards the outer area as you see in the photos. it kinda cuts off
isn't that intended feature? so like, at some point it stops rendering shadows and stuff to make it viable performance wise?
Raise your vanilla RD
DH can’t render textures or anything smaller then a full block
If you want the shader to still have full quality shadows on DH LODs
- enable DH shadow map
- increase shadow range/render distance
- increase shadow resolution
Do you know where th DH shadowmap is? is it in config or in-game? trying to look for it
In shader settings
Under mod support > Distant Horizons iirc
hmm i cant find it unfortunately, ill try the shadow range and resolution
Shadow range on its own won’t affect DH LODs if the shader does not use DH shadowmap
im pretty sure BSL does right?
I know Bliss does
IDK about BSL
And IDK if it is enable by default if supported
Try asking in ShaderLabs DC
yeah ive tried all of these but the blocks out still look really untextured

idk if u can kinda see the cutoff
Only possibility left is to change the shader
i have changed to many shaders, bsl, bliss, cont unbound and rebound
You could try a shader that has a fade between normal and dh chunks, like shrimple or bloop
i will try that, thank you
do you think its a possibility of 1.20.1? im on 1.20.1 and i know its in beta in curseforge atleast do you think that might be the problem?
Shouldn't be. DH behaves almost exactly the same on all mc versions.
do you think it might be because of biomes o plenty? i tried playing around with the config and switching it to internal_server but honestly nothing
im running oculus and embeddium atm
If I understand your issue correctly, what you're seeing is expected behaviour.
Theres no mod interfering or mc version causing problems.
Only thing you can do is mitigating that behaviour/making it less noticeable, by trying shaders with fading.
Ill try making it less noticeable. the reason i tried getting help for this issue is that seeing the screenshots tab on discord, or just videos in general about this mod, it doesnt seem to have a cutoff from shaders or making it look very noticeable regardless of shaders (considering ive tried many)
